[Ruan Mei cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — An Elegant Silhouette Atop the Xianzhou

This blue and white dress for Ruan Mei is visually very refreshing, and looking at the overall coordination, I found that many clever touches are hidden in the details. The upper collar is a modified mandarin collar, with that emerald green gemstone right in the center acting as the visual focus of the upper body, perfectly neutralizing the coldness of the blue and white colors. The white off-the-shoulder ruffles not only accentuate the shoulder and neck lines but are also spliced with semi-translucent chiffon, which, paired with the embellished 3D pink flowers and strings of pearl decorations, creates a very rich visual layering. The arm section features fitted long blue gloves, while the sleeves have a wide lantern-sleeve-like design that cinches at the cuffs and drapes down with white tassels—this contrast in silhouette makes the entire outfit more dynamic. The lower body features a classic high-slit design, and the nude-colored inner tights make the overall leg lines look incredibly smooth. The blue fabric of the skirt hem is printed with white vine patterns, and the fluttering of the skirt while walking perfectly showcases the gradient layers of the color scheme.

For makeup and hair, I wore a natural black wig, with a blue-cyan updo at the back of my head accessorized with matching flower hair ornaments, which visually echo the gemstone at the collar in tone. The makeup was intentionally kept quite light to fit the character's gentle nature, and the bright blue colored contacts keep my gaze focused without looking out of place in a Chinese-style cosplay setting. Overall, the character's temperament was successfully captured, retaining that elegant yet ethereal feeling.

During the shoot, we chose a traditional wooden corridor with a backdrop of layered Chinese tiled roofs. The sunlight filtering through the eaves created soft light spots, and this ambient color matched the blue and white tones of the outfit unexpectedly well. As for props, I selected this white lace embroidered folding fan. Holding it in my hands—whether with clasped hands or unfolding it with one hand—enriched the composition and form of the frame beautifully. Especially during the transition between half-body and full-body shots, the texture on the fan and the pearl strings on the clothes formed a wonderful material harmony. To capture different atmospheres, we experimented with several angles: a side-profile downward gaze, facing the light directly, and looking back over the shoulder. The varying reflections of light on the white veil and blue skirt infused this set of photos with an elegant and serene quality.

Honestly, the details of this outfit are far more numerous than they appear—for instance, those beaded strings and tassels, although beautiful to wear, required constant attention during the shoot to make sure they wouldn't get tangled with the surrounding railings or my own arms. Additionally, while the high-slit skirt visually elongates proportions, pulling off natural and elegant movements also meant continuously adjusting angles. The shoot took quite a bit of time, and we repeatedly adjusted the positioning of the fan and my arms. Fortunately, the final cuts managed to display the quiet and delicate side of this character. This time, we chose a time slot with softer lighting for the shoot, and this Xianzhou attire look under natural light carries a bit more warmth than a studio shoot.
