[Sparkle Cosplay] An Adventure in Honkai: Star Rail Within a Vintage Scene

Putting on this red and black outfit and wearing the silver-white white-haired twin tails wig, the moment I stood next to the vintage radio recorder, Sparkle's seemingly harmless yet dangerous aura from Honkai: Star Rail naturally flowed out. Choosing to shoot this Anime cosplay set in a vintage grocery store setting filled with old items and warm lights was truly perfect. Wig texture and trimming are very important for character recreation, especially silver-white hair which can easily look stiff, so I spent a lot of time before the shoot combing and adjusting the bangs and braids to make them look fluffy and airy. Paired with the black mini magician top hat on my head, white rabbit ear decorations, and slightly curled ends, a playful vibe immediately emerged.

For makeup, to closely match Sparkle's iconic red eyes, I intentionally enhanced the eye makeup layering, using red-brown and dark red eyeshadow to blend out the outer eye corners. Combined with bright red contact lenses, my gaze looked both focused and slightly sly. I chose a retro true red lipstick, which created a perfect color harmony with the black bow choker on my neck and white lace ruffles along the clothing edges—the classic red, white, and black palette looked crisp and clean on camera.

This costume design blends traditional Japanese elements with street trendiness: the off-the-shoulder design paired with a corset structure refined body proportions, while the white pleated skirt on the lower half, black-and-white checkered ribbon splicing, and the wide cartoon rabbit cape on the left arm added rich visual layers. Holding a red prop shaped with tentacles or a fist, along with a black-and-white flag, not only fit the character's signature poses but also balanced the overall visual weight.

Photographer @Takyi柒月 excels at capturing dynamic moments in complex lighting. He used abundant warm spotlights casting onto the character and the background red brick wall, creating cinematic dramatic tension. I was particularly satisfied with the low-angle full-body shot stepping on the old radio, as lowering the camera's center of gravity visually extended leg lines significantly while making my posture look more confident and rebellious. Wearing black platform Martin boots, raising one leg slightly with the weapon pointing sideways, Sparkle's temperament—walking the edge between cuteness and danger—was instantly established amid the interplay of light and shadow.

In close-up shots, lightly pressing a finger against the corner of my eye with my chin slightly raised aimed to showcase her subtle tsundere charm: "I know I'm cute, so being a little willful is totally fine." In fact, the shooting process was much more exhausting than it looks; whether half-squatting, turning sideways, or high leg-lifting, every pose required balancing against stiff sleeves and props without tilting. Finding the most natural fold state for the skirt's fluffiness alone took dozens of shots. Seeing the final results of this Vintage portrait set—that vintage, effortless, and slightly wild atmosphere—really brought me a delightful surprise. This process of restoring a game character's lore in a real-world setting is inherently the greatest joy of cosplay.
