[Sparkle cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Nighttime Floor Roam at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo

Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo has wrapped up, and my chosen character for the floor this time was Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail. As the most popular streamer of the Two-Phased Paradise, 'Sparkle-chan,' roaming the expo grounds was a genuinely special Game character cosplay experience.

This costume is rich in detail, presenting a stark chromatic contrast among red, black, and white. The top adopts kimono-inspired tailoring blended with abundant lace and ruffle trims along the cuffs and collar, paired with a multi-tiered pleated skirt. Fastened at the waist was a plush white rabbit wearing a top hat and monocle; finding the optimal angle for it to sit nicely before the camera took several fittings. The black choker at the neck and black gloves served as crucial accents to elevate character posture, giving the silhouette a crisp, collected finish.

The wig was a silver-white hue with soft pink undertones, taking considerable time to sculpt the signature twintails and braided accents. Due to the high hair volume and the rabbit-ear hair accessories affixed to the crown, plenty of bobby pins and styling hairspray were needed. The greatest challenge with such long wigs at conventions is tangling—especially after a full day of walking the hall—requiring frequent trips to the restroom to comb through. For makeup, crimson eyeshadow and the distinct red teardrop beauty mark below the eye were key anchors, paired with a high-saturation classic red lipstick against a fair base to brighten complexion while honoring canonical designs.

Wielding the staff prop was an absolute workout. Although built primarily from lightweight materials, the massive red glove sculpture at the tip created substantial drag and leverage, requiring firm core stability when striking poses. I experimented with diverse handling: supporting it with one hand, resting it across my shoulder, or planting it straight in front of me. Because the staff was quite tall, I kept it held upright while navigating crowds to avoid bumping into anyone.

Outdoor night shooting took place against red neon light strips. This ambient glow cast onto the fabrics made the vibrant crimson pop even more. The photographer laid out a white fleece blanket, allowing me to take relaxed seated postures—crossing my legs or extending one knee forward—to best display the black, red-soled high-heeled boots. The lace-up design kept walking steady, though standing for hours naturally tired the soles.

So many wonderful attendees came by to take photos and interact; everyone was incredibly friendly. Posing for group snapshots, I made sure to stay animated to channel Sparkle's energetic persona. Throughout the session, we explored dynamic compositions using stone block elevations and railing lines. Solid team synergy between styling and photography makes all the difference in cosplay, with every beat benefiting from open communication.

Wrapping up after a full day left me physically drained, with sore calves from hours in heeled boots. Yet reviewing the frames on camera and seeing the nuanced texture carved by the light made every bit of fatigue worthwhile. Exploring garment fittings, prop handling, and on-site spatial adaptability for different characters is a rewarding learning process. This nighttime shoot at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo taught me so much about lighting manipulation and poise in complex attire.
