The Cosplay photoshoot for Ruan Mei cosplay is finally sorted out. The core vision for this shoot was to capture that serene, cool, and graceful essence of the character in Honkai: Star Rail. To align with the character's temperament, I specifically chose light green colored contacts paired with soft eyeshadow and lipstick to make the face appear fairer and more dimensional. The wig was styled into a deep black bob with a chignon bun, with gentle face-framing waves on both sides, while the blue hair accessories on the bun unified the overall color scheme.
Regarding the costume, this teal corset dress boasts rich texture, adorned with delicate gold thread embroidery. The deep blue long skirt features a high-slit design; to complement the garment's lines, I deliberately wore dark blue high heels paired with long black gloves. While high-slit dresses require extra care to prevent accidental exposure when moving, they truly showcase leg lines wonderfully in front of the lens. The delicate thigh garter added an extra touch of detail. I didn't wear stockings during the shoot, relying mainly on lighting contrast to display the natural skin texture for this Anime girl cosplay.
For props, the pipa lute and oil-paper umbrella were the highlights of this shoot. The pipa prop was heavy and quite smooth, so holding it naturally required finding the exact center of gravity, paying special attention to the angle between the headstock and the body. The oil-paper umbrella and silk round fan were used to enrich dynamic poses. When sitting on the bench, to elongate leg lines, I experimented with various extended and crossed leg postures—for instance, sitting diagonally on the wooden bench to let the drape of the skirt fill empty visual space, while utilizing wide-angle lens perspective to elongate leg proportions.
The set featured a large circular moon gate with white vine blossoms and calligraphic sheer drapes in the background. The photographer utilized strong backlighting to pierce through the white flowers, creating a hazy yet high-contrast mood. The wooden bench, stone lanterns, and geometric carpet patterns all added authentic Eastern classical charm to the composition. Throughout the shoot, wide apertures and backlight compensation were adjusted according to changing light to ensure proper facial exposure while preserving the soft background glow. We tried diverse combinations of holding the lute, opening the umbrella, and posing with the round fan to faithfully recreate the game character's demeanor. Post-processing focused on blemish removal and soft-glow effects without exaggerated warping to maintain natural proportions. Overall, a lot of dedication went into costume adjustments and finding angles, resulting in a highly finished and rewarding Cosplay photoshoot experience.
