"I don't know how to play anything...!" It's Mortis time now. This time, I'm bringing you a cosplay of Wakaba Mutsumi's Mortis persona from Ave Mujica.
In terms of makeup and styling, the red beret paired with the light mint green wig creates a strong, iconic contrast. The deep blue, bright red, and white color-blocked dress, along with the emerald gemstone bowtie on the chest, gives the entire look the exquisite feel of a dark fairy tale. Especially on the cuffs and collar, the tailor's handling of details was incredibly precise; the gold threads and rows of buttons greatly enhanced the three-dimensional feel of the costume, and wearing it truly made the fit feel perfectly aligned with the character design.
During the shoot, we arranged a lot of interesting props in the studio. White doves, a gorgeous picture frame, a vintage birdcage, and even a simulated skeleton came together to create a Gothic, theatrical, and slightly eerie atmosphere. The photo interacting with the life-sized doll prop actually took quite a lot of thought; finding a suitable pose that felt both continuous and conveyed a doll-like sense of detachment was essential to reflect the traits of the Mortis state. Personally, I really like the shot where I am holding food in my mouth. It feels packed with a sense of situational narrative—lazy yet carrying a hint of dangerous tension, which harmonizes beautifully with the exquisite birdcage next to me.
The picture frame shot was a compositional idea the photographer insisted on, using a diagonal composition to frame me inside like a vintage oil painting. The eyes perfectly capture Mortis's deep sense of emptiness yet absolute control. Although the entire process was hard work—the wig was a bit thick and the costume had many layers—being able to perfectly present the character's duality, especially that trait where coldness and madness coexist in the Mortis persona, made it a fantastic Anime cosplay attempt for me. I hope this dark Gothic Cosplay photography session allows everyone to feel the unique charm of this character. This studio experience was deeply fulfilling; ever since I watched the original work, I’ve always wanted to shoot this outfit, and now my dream has finally come true.
