[Saber Cosplay] Fate Series Classic Formal Dress Look Outdoor Location Shoot

This formal dress outfit was the highlight of this shoot. The royal blue glossy material presents a special shine under sunlight, paired with black lace halter neck and over-elbow long gloves, creating an overall visual effect that is both elegant and slightly sharp. For the wig, we specifically styled the iconic ahoge at the top, using setting spray to maintain its curvature, though it still needed frequent adjustments when windy outdoors. The prop sword has a lot of weight in hand; the surface runes were hand-outlined in post-production, and for a better grip, I wrapped a bit of anti-slip tape around the crossguard. The black parasol was also custom-made with ruffle trims; it serves as a walking cane when folded and provides great shade when open, making it perfect for half-body close-ups in harsh lighting. For the location, we chose a European garden with white stone balustrades, multi-tiered fountains, and neatly trimmed greenery that complemented the dress's aura well. To avoid harsh midday direct sunlight, we focused our shoot around 3 to 4 PM when the light was much softer, capturing the layered folds of the skirt nicely. Photographer @Carbonate had rich composition ideas, trying several states from leaning against balustrades looking back, to turning back carrying the sword, and sitting at the fountain edge. Personally, the challenge of this outfit lies in the high-low skirt design with a shorter front and longer back—walking and crouching required care not to step on the rear train, but the benefit was beautifully highlighting leg contours and the royal blue high heels on my feet. To handle multiple angles, we prepared dual focusing and fill lights; the biggest challenge during Outdoor location shoots was occasional passersby entering the frame, though fortunately it could be touched up in post. Swinging the sword actually demanded more strength than imagined; carrying the heavy sword slung diagonally over one shoulder made the shoulder quite tense, but the visual tension in camera was definitely superior. The entire shoot lasted nearly two and a half hours, with a makeup touch-up midway because sweat loosened the adhesion between wig and lace neckline. The final color saturation came out very comfortable, with the blue-black contrast and green background creating crisp counterpoints. My favorite is the leg-raising composition by the fountain edge, offering a natural sense of dynamic motion. Though this look is a dress, combining it with weapons still conveys a combat aura rather than purely gentle softness, which was one of my main reasons for picking this outfit for Anime-style photography. The garment's tailored fit places high demands on waist, abdomen, and back posture, so I do core training regularly to maintain form. If given the chance to shoot this series again, I might try night scenes leaning toward close-combat atmospheres, paired with cool-toned lighting for a completely different texture.
