Today I'm cosplaying Silver Wolf from Honkai: Star Rail. This techwear outfit took a lot of thought from fitting to actual execution, and I'm so glad I finally got to wear it on-site at the convention to shoot a nice set of convention photos. This jacket with a holographic reflective texture is the core of the entire look. Under the crisscrossing neon lights and cyan ambient lighting of the convention venue, it reflects a beautiful metallic glow, matching the character's cyberpunk style setting perfectly. To complement the sci-fi feel of the upper body, the lower body features a miniskirt with blue lines and polka dot elements, along with black tactical straps around the thighs and high-top techwear boots. This visually elongates the proportions and reinforces the sharp, capable aura of a combat girl.
The biggest test during the shoot was actually physical stamina. There are many adjustment buckles and straps on the entire costume, especially the leg armor and the pair of half-finger gloves, all of which needed to be organized properly without hindering movement. Although the rabbit-ear headpiece and the goggles with reflective lenses are decorations, I needed to find the right angle when wearing them, ensuring they didn't block my vision while still presenting a relaxed and casual state in front of the lens. Pushing the goggles up versus pulling them down conveys a completely different feeling through the eyes, so we experimented with a few different states during the shoot. For the wig styling, I specifically went with a silver-grey layered shattered hair look, so that even under the harsh lights of the convention, the strands maintain a three-dimensional and layered feel without looking flat.
In this set of photos, I especially love the moment of blowing bubble gum in Figure 3. It was an impromptu performance while resting on an equipment box. I originally wanted to maintain a cool expression, but blowing a bubble gum instead made the atmosphere a bit more lively, carrying a kind of playfulness and relaxation unique to her. To match the overall techwear look, I chose a relatively clear and transparent base for the makeup, along with a slightly prominent lip color, making my skin tone harmonize better with the cool colors of the clothes. The fabric of this holographic jacket is actually quite thick; wearing it while walking around the crowded convention for half a day was indeed a bit stuffy and hot, but seeing the results from the photographer, I felt it was all worth it.
The light and shadow variations in the venue were incredibly rich. The lights in some corners hit the clothes and produced blue-purple or silver-white reflections, adding many unexpected pleasant surprises to this set of photos. I think the joy of cosplaying lies not only in putting on the clothes of a favorite character but also in re-experiencing that character's personality and attitude within a specific setting. While recreating Silver Wolf from Honkai: Star Rail this time, I specifically paid attention to her easy-going, confident, yet slightly childish traits, trying to stay close to her soul through different movements and expressions. Besides the main look, the white color of the inner vest is also key; it neutralizes the dark palette of the jacket and miniskirt, making the color layering of the clothing much clearer. Guided by the photographer, I strived to find that dashing, unconstrained state in front of the lens, hoping to convey Silver Wolf's unique aura as a Stellaron Hunter to those viewing the photos. This convention photos journey, though physically tiring, was mentally very fulfilling through our cosplay photography.
