[March 7th Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail — Pioneering Together with the Astral Express

Reflections in the candlelight reveal the face in the mirror, red strings binding past memories, as the journey on the Astral Express never halts. As someone bringing this character to life, I'd like to share a few thoughts on shooting the \"Lunar Corona Group\" look.

Looking at the first photo, it leans toward a soft, everyday style. The foundation is a pure white collared top accented with a bright blue bow knot at the neckline, paired with golden cross-patterned buttons for a clean, elegant look. For the pink hair, I chose a material with a subtle sheen in pale pink, styled with light, airy bangs and longer framing strands on both sides. The makeup emphasizes a translucent, natural base, complemented by slender pink hand-drawn eyebrows, vivid blue contacts, and soft pink lips. The overall demeanor is gentle and smiling, like a warm breeze. A black choker and black fingerless gloves, along with the red string held in hand, form a simple yet stylish visual ensemble.

The second image presents a different interpretation, reflecting a combat-ready state. The fabric and tailoring of this outfit noticeably incorporate the sharp, structured lines of tactical style. A metallic cross collar pin replaces ordinary adornments, and a deep purple bow hair accessory matches the dark purple tones of the outfit. The jacket features a black base with a white collar, accented with silver 3D line details on the chest and cuffs, alongside red and black armor elements that add rich visual layers. For this look, I switched to red contacts, deepened the eye makeup, and adjusted my expression to convey a sharper, more mature, and powerful presence. The gloves feature a unique deep-purple leather design with hollow cutouts and sharp metallic fingertip accents, while the red string in hand transforms into a symbolic bond or guiding force for battle. A semi-transparent sheer ribbon tied at the wrist softens the harshness of tactical gear, adding a sense of light, fluttering dynamic movement.

Styling the wig was a major focus this time. To capture the character's fluffy, soft yet structured hair, beyond standard trimming and parting, I used a significant amount of hairspray and texture techniques to define individual strands. The bangs over the forehead were carefully adjusted for angle and length to ensure a flattering facial silhouette from both front and profile angles.

The shooting location was a clean indoor space with plain white walls and no complex set decoration. However, through lighting and prop integration, we built an atmosphere fitting for the character setting. When handling the red string prop, instead of merely holding it, I tried weaving it through my fingers and letting it stretch across the frame. Visually, the red string bridges the distinct emotional tones of both photos—one looking back at a gentle past, the other stepping forward with resolve—perfectly echoing the narrative essence of moving ahead within the \"Astral Express\" theme.

The advantage of a white wall is its simplicity, focusing all attention on the cosplayer's makeup, outfit, and expressions. This naturally places higher demands on the cosplay's overall quality. Details like eye highlights, eyebrow symmetry, lip line precision, and wig smoothness become highly visible under bright studio lights against a simple background. This made the shoot challenging, especially since I changed contact lenses, adjusted hair flow, and repositioned accessories between the two looks, requiring continuous adjustments in state and camera angles.

The character's charm lies in being part of a grand cosmic narrative while remaining vibrant and relatable. By recreating this look, I aimed to share that vivid sense of reality with the audience through my own interpretation. It goes beyond replicating costumes and wigs; it's about conveying expressions and emotions. The blue eyes represent clarity and curiosity toward the world, while the red eyes embody determination and sharpness when facing the unknown. Bringing out these distinct layers of personality requires a cosplayer to fully immerse themselves in front of the camera.

For prop details, I paid special attention to the texture of the small blue bow and golden buttons in the first photo, as well as the reflections from the silver metallic stripes and cross collar pin on the black attire in the second. The costume team put in extensive work, finely tuning everything from tailoring to accessory stitching to ensure a crisp fit without sagging, maintaining a structured collar as the foundation for great photos.

The most rewarding aspect of shooting dual contrasting looks lies in showing completely different character vibes under similar poses in the same setting. This shift reflects the character's growth, different facets, and emotional bonds within the story. The red line serves as both a visual leading line for the photographic composition and a symbol of emotion and destiny, running through both sets of photos to create an intrinsic narrative unity.

The entire process—from makeup trial, wig styling, and costume dressing to the final shoot—demanded considerable energy and hard work. Yet seeing the final photos brings immense satisfaction, which is the pure joy that cosplay brings me. Photo quality depends not only on gear, but on refining the finer details. That's why I deeply cherish every shooting opportunity, striving to present the character's beauty to its fullest extent.
