This shoot features the "Under the Truth" skin of Identity V's Naiad, which is the Dream Guide outfit. The primary color palette of blue and black, combined with layers of lace and rose elements, highlights the character's unique mysterious and crisp temperament.
After deciding on this project, I first spent a lot of thought on the costume's accuracy. This dress uses plenty of material, with distinct layers of blue satin and black mesh tulle, particularly the exquisite textures on the waist and abdomen made through patchwork and embroidery. To showcase a perfect waistline in front of the lens, the internal structure was made with a very solid corset design. Although it was a bit tight to wear, for cosplay, the visual presentation of the physique is the most important. The 3D tailoring of the skirt hem was also key, using stiff mesh to support the fluffiness so that the massive blue rose decoration could be securely fixed at the hip without collapsing when walking.
For makeup and hair, the light blue wig needed to be styled with a natural airy feel to avoid flattening against the scalp, so high-temperature fiber was used for meticulous layered trimming and slight curling. The thorn crown headpiece and blue gemstone embellishments are cleverly placed, adding a visual focal point to the top of the head. The eye makeup utilizes a polarized cool blue pearlescent shadow, deepening the contours of the outer corners to make the gaze look deeper, perfectly conveying that crisp, melancholic, yet slightly stubborn charm of the Dream Guide. The lip color features a soft rose bean-paste tone, neutralizing the sharpness of the overall cool color palette.
The set design this time was highly immersive. A large number of blue roses, draping white gauze, as well as white wings and feathers created an illusory dream space. A European retro full-length mirror and a carved chair were placed on-site, adding a sense of depth to the space. During the shoot, a bubble machine and rainbow-colored refracted light were used, capturing highly dreamlike light and shadow effects. For instance, in those few shots holding the glass and a blue rose, by adjusting the angle of the goblet, the glass wall perfectly caught the reflection of the bubbles on set, giving the entire frame a shimmering, fractured aesthetic beauty within this Blue rose backdrop setup.
Shooting works with such massive costumes and complex elements is truly a test of physical endurance. However, seeing those details perfectly presented in front of the camera and the interaction between the set and the character being just right makes all the effort feel worthwhile. A great deal of dedication went into this project from pattern making to the final photos, making it a truly unforgettable experience for Cosplay photography.
