[Shirasu Azusa cosplay] Blue Archive Swimsuit Mirror Selfie: Reflections on Securing the Wings

While taking this Swimsuit Mirror selfie today, my biggest realization was that the wing prop on my back was attached backwards! Prop issues like this have always been a real headache—due to the material, it's very difficult to keep them naturally positioned at a specific angle. To find a way to secure them, I tried all sorts of makeshift DIY methods. Tying them to the back straps with fishing line had too small of a contact point, so even a slight turn would tilt them crooked; using double-sided tape or skin-safe garment tape on the sheer mesh failed because the fabric was too lightweight to support the wings without drooping. I tried adding an invisible wire bracket in the center of the back and even thought about using safety pins, but since the wings are made of sheer, semi-transparent mesh, internal wiring easily showed through, severely ruining that ethereal translucency. If any fellow fans have experience, please teach me how to secure wings like these so they stay sturdy yet look seamless!

The outfit features a lovely pink, black, and white color palette; the prominent black bow on the chest paired with ruffled hem detailing is quite flattering on body contours. To present better proportions before the lens, I spent considerable time adjusting the fit while dressing. The height of the skirt was especially critical for visual proportions—it needed to showcase a sleek waistline while making the legs look longer. The mini-skirt has plenty of pleats, requiring constant care while moving to avoid wardrobe malfunctions. The sleeves feature generous swathes of icy-white-to-blue gradient chiffon, exceptionally flowy yet prone to snagging on nearby objects, and the soft fabric tends to build up static electricity easily.

The headwear was equally demanding: I wore a long white wig topped with a golden halo adorned with colorful mini bows. The wig had heavy volume with multiple ribbons woven throughout, making it quite tricky when changing outfits or putting on earrings. For footwear, I wore chunky platform wedge sandals featuring blue-and-white striped bows; the heels were exceedingly high, requiring my full center of gravity on the balls of my feet when standing on hardwood floors. During the Mirror selfie session, keeping my lower body grounded was vital to stabilize my pose and prevent camera shake.

To capture a satisfying full-body shot, I repeatedly adjusted the phone's height and tilt angle. To elongate the exposed waistline and leg lines while framing the span of the wings behind me, I tested various poses—turning sideways, leaning back while holding the phone frontally, and flashing peace signs. Poses like the peace signs in photos 1 and 3 required extending the arm straight enough to visually lengthen the lower body. The whole experience was genuinely fun; despite the multiple trials before getting the shots, the resulting pink-themed girl aesthetic—complete with the cut-out waist and translucent wings—faithfully captured the refreshing essence of this Blue Archive Swimsuit look. If I shoot this Shirasu Azusa cosplay set again, I'll likely craft a rigid backplate myself to anchor the wings, hopefully resolving the backwards attachment issue once and for all!
