I've had this Shenhe cosplay outfit and props for a while now, so I took advantage of the weekend to do a simple indoor shoot. The final pictures turned out to basically capture the cool, serene vibe I was going for.
The wig this time is a silver-white gradient, very smooth in texture, styled with nice layers as part of my silver hair cosplay setup. The costume is a custom piece featuring a halter-neck design, with a deep blue gem embedded beneath the neckline surrounded by intricate golden patterns, perfectly matching the adeptal vibe in the character lore. The red ropes around the shoulders and neck are a striking highlight; both the tie of the knot and the red tassels hanging at the ends required just the right drape. The outer wear is a wide-sleeved white robe with hazy blue wide borders stitched onto the cuffs, worn over a black halter dress inside. The classic combination of red, blue, white, and black is timeless and captivating.
For this shoot, I mainly used a red paper umbrella with cloud patterns. When opened, the canopy is quite large; the red-and-blue color scheme paired with traditional cloud motifs echoes the elements on the costume. Holding it adds substance and enriches the color depth of the whole scene. I tried a few different angles: in the first photo, holding the closed umbrella with hands overlapped and looking into the camera to convey a calm and composed state; in the second, standing sideways with the open umbrella rested diagonally behind my shoulder, paired with a slight head tilt for great visual extension; in the third, putting down the umbrella and holding the handle with one hand to shift focus to upper body costume details, catching the subtle luster of the collar gem and red ropes nicely; in the fourth, reaching out a palm towards a slightly closer lens to add a bit of an interactive feel.
For makeup, I toned down the eye makeup, skipping heavy eyeshadows and instead emphasizing the eyeliner swoops and curled lashes. Paired with soft pink lip gloss, the overall face was clean and matched the light-toned costume very well. Shooting such a detailed anime cosplay outfit indoors under space and light constraints was quite challenging, but thankfully the outfit held up well—its lines drew nice contours from both front and side angles. I especially loved the red umbrella; opening it broke up the large blocks of white and black, making the composition much more dynamic.
During the shoot, I repeatedly adjusted my positioning to find the optimal angle between the paper umbrella and my body. Wide-sleeved robes like this can easily wrinkle or misalign during poses, requiring constant neatening. However, the resulting quality was genuinely satisfying—especially seeing the smooth drape of the outer robe and the crisp texture of the red ropes. It was a joyful experience, and I feel it captured the character's cool yet subtle gentleness. I really like how the final photos turned out, and I hope everyone can appreciate the Chinese-style cosplay details in this design.
