[Shao Si Yuan - Tushan Honghong cosplay] Archived Moments Frozen in Light and Shadow

This set of Shao Si Yuan - Tushan Honghong cosplay photos has been sitting on my hard drive for a while. Looking at the finished images after editing and exporting, I found myself at a loss for flowery words; instead, I felt a grounded sense of relief. For this shoot, I chose Migu Photography as the location, where the scene design perfectly matched the character's overall aura—especially the corner featuring wooden lattice windows and blue-and-white porcelain vases, combined with large clusters of faux pink cherry blossoms, creating instant visual depth.

Speaking of the costume, a lot of thought went into selecting materials for this pink, white, and orange modified traditional style cosplay garment. The outer pink fabric features subtle woven patterns, glowing with a delicate matte sheen under the studio's soft lights without causing distorted reflections like shiny fabrics often do. Darker spliced linings stabilize the overall layers, while cyan-blue cloud-pattern ornaments and tassels sway gently during movement, adding dynamic energy to the frame. The golden-yellow wig was trimmed with thicker bangs and an ahoge on top. Green contact lenses were paired with reddish eye makeup, complementing the fluffy animal ear outfit accessories to make the character feel even more vibrant and spirit-like on camera.

The shoot itself went quite smoothly, with the photographer capturing light and shadow precisely. The use of side-backlight created a soft, glowing halo along the edges of my hair and fluffy ears. A few shots holding a wine flask or handing out a small gold ornament were snapped spontaneously while walking or sitting down, looking far more natural than forced poses. Thus, I deliberately kept post-processing light, mostly adjusting skin tone and light contrast while retaining the scene's original cool yet soft ambience.

I actually wrestled with editing decisions. On one hand, finding the right balance between a 2D animal ear outfit style and a formal photoshoot was tricky; on the other hand, since these photos record a specific character's state at a particular moment, I ultimately chose to preserve this authentic texture. I refrained from over-smoothing frizzy hair or finger curves into artificial perfection, keeping subtle traces of a real cosplayer at work.

Regarding makeup, whenever doing an animal ear outfit cosplay, special attention must be paid to the jaw and cheek contours. Because the wig is voluminous and accompanied by ears on both sides, the face can easily look wide, so blush and contouring should be focused inward. Although green contacts brighten the eyes, deepening the eye contours is necessary to avoid a blank stare—a balance I felt was mostly achieved this time. As for poses and expressions, I didn't strictly follow existing templates, choosing instead to interpret the character's serene, slightly aloof, yet gentle demeanor based on my own understanding.

Looking through these finished shots, as I mentioned in a previous post, brings a moment of quiet reflection. After cosplaying for so many years, the hardest part isn't completing a look, but facing yourself in front of the lens afterwards and accepting the final texture after all the effort. This silence isn't dissatisfaction, but rather feeling that all emotions are already expressed in the photos, making extra words redundant. Filing away these photos for this studio photo shoot serves as a final submission for my diligent prep during this period, honoring the wigs and costumes that kept me company late into the night in the studio.
