Sharing this set of finalized Castorice cosplay photos from Honkai: Star Rail. This shoot mainly aimed to highlight the character's cool and elegant yet mysteriously ethereal temperament, so the look was fully coordinated with this costume dominated by white, silver, light purple, and black. When I posted previously, everyone mentioned the "power of beauty filters." Indeed, some retouching was done in post-processing regarding light, shadow, and skin texture, but the raw photos themselves were actually highly solid—especially the three-dimensional headpiece and the white texture of the wig, which looked fantastic on set.
What left the deepest impression on me during this shoot was this prop scythe; the actual item was truly much heavier than imagined, and its length was highly exaggerated. When shooting the full-body photo in Figure 2, holding the long handle to maintain an upright posture heavily tested my arm strength, as even a slight hand tremor would shift the entire visual center of gravity. However, to recreate the aura of this character, Castorice, holding this weapon steadily was an essential task. Fortunately, Figure 1 selected a glancing-back pose with the scythe slung diagonally behind my back, using the momentum of turning around to ease the center of gravity a bit, which instead captured that effortless sense of elegance.
In terms of styling, the headpiece was the main highlight of this cosplay. Handcrafted white flowers and translucent butterfly wing decorations are attached to a thorn-like black branch base; though intricate, it was highly secure to wear. The purple bows and black half-finger gloves echo the purple skirt hem of the lower body beautifully, making the black-white-purple color-blocking exceptionally recognizable on camera. The diamond pattern details on the boots are also well-executed, revealing exquisite craftsmanship even when pulled into a close-up.
Looking back at this set of photos, the reason Figure 1 serves as the main image is primarily that under the studio's lighting arrangement, the purple-red side-backlighting created a highly dreamlike atmosphere, and the shadow cast on the wall precisely added a sense of layers to the frame. Finding the right angle is crucial during a shoot, especially for a studio session involving a large weapon. You have to ensure the weapon is fully in frame while guaranteeing that the character's facial expression remains natural and not tense; the entire posture took quite a long adjustment time to achieve a relatively natural extension.
Regarding everyone's teasing about "photo scams," in truth, anyone who seriously creates works in the cosplay community invests a lot of energy into post-processing. What I want to present is an idealized character state detached from real-world daily life, so while preserving the natural feel of light and shadow, I slightly optimize the skin tone and facial proportions to bring the cosplayer's overall appearance closer to the character's 2D texture. Shooting this set of works was not only a character experience but also another collaborative practice with the photographer through this journey of cosplay photography. I hope these photos allow everyone to feel that unique serenity and sense of power belonging to Castorice in Honkai: Star Rail.
