[Sucrose cosplay] 7.13 Cosmic Wander Convention photos: This Pose Surprisingly Fits the Character Perfectly

The convention photos from the 7.13 Cosmic Wander anime convention are finally organized—this time I cosplayed Sucrose.

When taking photos in this pose, I didn't deliberately design any big dramatic movements. I simply raised one hand casually to the side of my forehead in a salute-like gesture, with my other hand extending naturally backward in a slightly crossed standing stance. However, when we went back to the computer to check the preview, we discovered that this relaxed yet slightly playful posture unexpectedly matched the overall impression Sucrose gives off. In her academic research, she is usually focused and a bit reserved, but occasionally shows a casual side with her subtle personal persistence; this pose happened to capture that delicate balance perfectly.

Let's talk about the makeup and wig preparation for this shoot. For the wig, I intentionally chose mint green as the main tone, adding cyan gradient highlights at the tips so it would have richer layering under studio lighting, while faithfully restoring her signature hairstyle. The cowlick at the top and the upturned hair ornaments on both sides required styling support, and I adjusted those few locks repeatedly. The costume details couldn't be overlooked either: a dark blue base jacket with light blue vertical stripes, paired with white wide-sleeve paneling. A crisp, structured fabric was selected to give the collar and shoulders a more three-dimensional line. The turquoise Anemo Vision pendant on her chest is the soul of the entire look, and I checked its positioning and reflections several times on-site to ensure it displayed a perfect texture on camera.

The lighting inside the convention hall in July was actually quite complex, mixing cold white high-intensity softboxes with chaotic ambient lights. Thanks to the photographer working with me, they skillfully adjusted the angle of the top-side key light to clearly show the fabric texture of the white coat, while using reflectors to nicely brighten the shadow areas of my dark gray over-the-knee stockings and white boots. The reflective floor tiles were a pleasant surprise bonus: they extended my standing posture downward in the frame and clearly reflected the golden rounded tips of the boots and the shadow silhouette of my legs, enhancing the spatial depth of the entire photo.

Personally, I feel Sucrose possesses a gentle yet resilient strength. She has an almost obsessive focus on research, yet often appears shy and reserved in crowds. So for this shoot, I intentionally slowed down my pace, avoiding overly exaggerated facial expressions, and approached her character with a relatively calm, relaxed gaze and demeanor. The convention crowd was huge that day, so to avoid the congestion in front of booths, we found a relatively quiet, dark-toned corner at the back of the venue for these convention photos. This contrast between light and dark backgrounds made the vibrant blue and white elements on the costume stand out even more.

Looking back at these photos now, the fatigue from sweating, touching up makeup, and discussing framing details back and forth with the photographer has turned into pure satisfaction upon receiving the final edits. Behind every exquisite cosplay costume lies a lot of tedious prep work, but being able to fully immerse oneself in recreating a beloved character and presenting her true demeanor on camera is the ultimate motivation that Anime-style photography and Casual cosplay bring to me.
