[Kamisato Ayaka cosplay] Such Lovely Weather—Shall We Go for a Walk Somewhere?

This was my first time shooting cosplay convention photos. Looking through the raw camera previews afterward, the slightly chaotic lighting and the lively bustle of the venue felt far more vivid and genuine than rigid, posed studio shots. This Kamisato Ayaka cosplay outfit features modified blue-and-white Japanese-style clothing patterned with snowflakes and cherry blossoms, paired with a black-and-gold folding fan. Aside from the white wig and pink eye makeup, the most eye-catching element was going bare-legged with clear high-heeled sandals and black gloves, injecting a striking contrast into the cool-toned aesthetic.

The photographer guided me through a variety of poses on-site, such as sitting on a step stool, standing on one foot while lifting the fan, and leaning forward extending a hand toward the lens. Because the heels were quite high, standing and walking back and forth was genuinely tiring and made the soles of my feet ache, but the resulting shots accentuated long legs with slender lines, while keeping the posture looking effortless. The beauty of convention photography lies in capturing spontaneous, unscripted moments—the natural arc of wind-blown hair and the flutter of the skirt—bringing a sense of dynamic life that surpasses formal studio sets.

The venue was illuminated by direct overhead cool-white fluorescent lighting, which typically produces harsh shadows. During post-processing, however, the photographer and retoucher balanced the lighting with great translucence, preserving the dark, moody hall atmosphere while making the subject pop with luminous, fair skin. The entire process from preparation to wrap-up went very smoothly. It was my first time embracing such a casual, spontaneous approach, free from the rigid millimeter-by-millimeter pose adjustments of traditional studios.

Photography is all about preserving memories, and capturing the pure joy of embodying a character is the most fulfilling outcome. The Japanese-style clothing has wonderful texture, and the skirt layers and tassels swayed beautifully with every movement. Retaining the genuine atmosphere of the venue in this way is a style I have grown to adore, and I definitely plan to try more of this relaxed, effortless approach in future shoots.
