This fan dance under the night cherry blossoms can be considered my answer to the late-night shooting session I did recently. Since the preview has already been released, I'd like to take this opportunity to talk about the production details of this work and my obsession with this character.
This shoot originated from my love for Kamisato Ayaka. From Genshin Impact's character design to the clothing's line details, and even her elegant yet decisive personality, I pondered over them repeatedly during the preparation process. Choosing to shoot under nighttime cherry blossom trees as an outdoor location was also considering combining an ethereal, otherworldly atmosphere. Fortunately, the shoot was completed before the cherry blossom petals fell, catching the night cherry blossoms at their most lush.
The temperature on the day of the shoot was not high, but to make the movements smooth, the layering of the costume still had to be properly maintained during movement. In this preview image, you can see me holding a long fan with one hand, standing on one leg and lightly leaping. In reality, maintaining balance in front of the lens is much harder than imagined. To maintain this posture, the waist needs to be stabilized with force, the gaze must coordinate with the camera's movement, and the movements must not be stiff or shaky. To capture the most fluid moment of the movement, we had many NGs before finally pinning down a relatively satisfactory instant.
Regarding the use of lighting, this time we deliberately chose cold main lighting paired with ambient blue-toned rim lighting, matching the white-blue tones of the night road and surrounding cherry blossoms to create a cold, stunning texture similar to a 2D painting. The reflection on the road surface provided a great base, preventing the frame from being swallowed by the dark night. Although the shooting process was very enjoyable, it certainly exposed many areas needing post-processing adjustments. As I mentioned in my post, I've always been a \"turtle retoucher\" type because I want to make skin texture, clothing material, and background blur as close to my expectations as possible. Therefore, I'm not in a hurry to release the official Cosplay photoshoot; I am meticulously carving out the details of every single photo.
Regarding costumes and props, I need to specially mention the weight distribution of this fan and the dragging feel of the sleeves. How to keep the sleeves in a natural arc during dynamic snapshots while ensuring the fan doesn't block the face required repeated communication with the photographer to establish. We took a lot of photos this time, each with different emotions and compositions. I picked this one as a preview mainly because the dynamic sense it conveys is distinct and its overall extension is wonderful, making the night cherry blossoms and blue costume seem to melt into one.
To be honest, Kamisato Ayaka is indeed the very first character I fell in love with in Genshin Impact, and she holds a very special, original place in my heart. In my mind, she isn't just the \"Cryo princess\" everyone sees; her inner world is actually very complex, restrained yet gently yearning for the cherry blossom festival and the warmth of human life. This personality contrast is what I'm deeply fascinated by. Although I've cosplayed this character several times, whenever I put on this outfit again, I hope to find a slightly different spark from last time through different makeup and styling interpretations and expressions.
This time, I wanted to present a slightly joyful yet measured dancing state. Since it's a fan dance offered to the Traveler, the movements shouldn't appear too sorrowful or cold, but should carry a passionate warmth of conveying feelings through dance. So I specifically adjusted my pose to make my body posture lighter, trying to make myself appear more brisk and elegant in front of the lens.
In fact, many cosplayers might gradually lose freshness after repeatedly cosplaying the same character, but I don't feel that way at all. Every re-polishing of costume details and micro-adjustment of makeup matching actually makes me understand the character herself even more. I've always felt that presenting a good work isn't about gaining how many clicks, but fulfilling a sense of respect for 2D characters in my heart. This process of self-confrontation and continuous improvement is also the most charming part of the hobby of cosplay.
Next, let's share the progress. Although the preview is out now, the official Cosplay photoshoot still has many parts that need editing and refinement. The lighting, shadows, and posture in this preview will undergo finer color balancing and texture restoration in the official set. After organizing all this hard work, I will release them one by one as soon as possible.
