This set of convention photos for Hinako Shimizu was completed in the dedicated photography area of the expo. The overarching theme channeled that oppressive, eerie atmosphere reminiscent of Silent Hill. Instead of a pristine, conventional sailor suit, I opted for a battle-worn distressed version. The deep navy fabric was meticulously weathered with frayed and torn edges, while the cropped midriff silhouette subtly revealed the waistline during movements, making the look feel sharper and more tactical. Crimson blossoms accented the collar, cuffs, and waistband, creating small pops of vivid contrast against the dark palette while hinting at an undercurrent of danger.

The mask was the centerpiece of the entire look—the metallic silver animal mask contoured closely to facial lines, producing striking reflections under the studio lighting. Wearing it considerably narrowed my peripheral vision, so tracking the lens direction relied almost entirely on muscle memory and instinct. For the right hand, I wore a massive furry beast claw whose soft plush texture clashed dramatically with the razor-sharp black claws. Battle damage makeup played a huge role here: realistic faux bloodstains were applied to the cheeks, arms, and knees, alongside weathered scuffs on the skirt hem to evoke the immediate aftermath of a brutal skirmish.

The main prop was a solid steel pipe. To stay true to this gritty concept, I steered away from overly delicate poses, leaning heavily into martial arts combat stances. We used the hall's ambient ceiling lighting and natural light from the right windows as a cool-toned foundation, with a red spotlight cast across the floor behind me to form localized pools of color. For action references, I chose tense, kinetic postures—dropping into a deep lunge preparing to swing, or balancing on one leg while raising the pipe overhead with both hands. The pairing of black over-the-knee stockings and chunky platform leather shoes sharpened the leg lines in the interplay of light and shadow. Holding deep lunges and single-leg squats was a brutal test of core stability, and I almost lost my footing a couple of times. Photographer OUKAI captured these dynamic bursts flawlessly with tight, high-impact framing. Even with lighting stands and passing crowds visible in the background, that raw convention realism actually heightened the authentic tension of the scene. When executing wide movements, the frayed hems of this dark, distressed garment flared mid-air, while the red blossoms shifted dynamically with each stance. The steel pipe also bounced varied metallic gleams under shifting light angles. I personally adore this gritty, combat-ready stillness, and I'll definitely keep exploring high-tension physical expressions like this in future projects.
