[Castorice Cosplay] The Serene Stance in Honkai: Star Rail

I captured some satisfying convention photos that I wanted to share. Recently, I cosplayed Castorice from Honkai: Star Rail at an anime convention. The layered texture and color scheme of the entire Cosplay outfit were presented quite completely in these convention photos, with the overall atmosphere captured just right.

This white-to-purple gradient puff dress features deep purple paneling at the upper neckline, echoing the asymmetrical arm sleeves. The layered petal decorations on the right side carry rich detail, which, combined with the semi-transparent butterfly-wing-like ornament on the left arm, naturally integrates the character's elements. Black hollow vine patterns at the waist sit atop pure white fabric without creating a harsh visual transition. Although it looks stunning when worn, the support structure inside the skirt hem and the long gradient purple train at the back require careful stepping to avoid tripping while walking around. The white wig looks glossy under top lighting, and paired with elf ears and black vine-like headpieces, the character's distinct style shines when viewed from the side.

When shooting indoors, I tried various standing poses. In one full-body shot, I raised one arm high while relaxing the other in front with a bent elbow, tilting my body slightly to shift weight to one side. This dynamic posture nicely stretches upper-body lines, while making the side butterfly wing ornament and long skirt hem behind me look more three-dimensional. Once the posture's framework is adjusted, it surprisingly gives an illusion of relaxation rather than looking overly stiff.

I personally am quite satisfied with the full-body composition of the second photo. Beneath the skirt hem, White stockings featuring diamond geometric textures are revealed, paired with high-heeled ankle boots stitched in white and purple. This pairing keeps the lower body from looking overly heavy; for such a puffy skirt style, clean and neat hosiery/footwear elongates leg proportions nicely. The lighting on set was somewhat harsh, coming from the front at a slight side angle, which lit up every fold and floral detail on the costume beautifully. A distinct glossy reflection on the floor tiles makes the character's silhouette edges look clearer. The dark door frame in the background contrasts with light-colored floor tiles, perfectly highlighting the brightness of this light-colored outfit.

Doing cosplay isn't just simply putting on clothes; figuring out character traits is also very intriguing. In this pose, I kept my shoulders relaxed, avoided consciously shying away from the camera lens, and paired a slightly mysterious posture to capture a quiet yet somewhat distant aura. Although the indoor shooting background is relatively simple, I actually feel this clean environment highlights the costume's design highlights much better.

The joy of taking convention photos lies in reconstructing a tangible character through body movements, costume details, and light/shadow interactions within a limited space. Attending anime conventions every time requires waking up early to style wigs and apply makeup; though tedious, from finding angles and clicking the shutter to viewing the final edited photos, every bit of preparation feels completely worthwhile. These are all authentic experiences within our hobby, so consider this post a periodic record and sharing of these convention photos.
