This red and black gothic cosplay heavy-duty large dress completely made me realize what it means to spend half an hour dressing up and five minutes taking photos. After finishing the first set yesterday afternoon, I immediately changed into this outfit, and just the process of getting dressed almost made me break down. Large pieces of black and red ruffles piled up at the neckline, the back straps were extremely cumbersome, and there was that row of cross straps in front of the chest that needed to be threaded in piece by piece, plus matching white sticker embellishments—every single detail tested my patience. Caring for the wig was also a major challenge; the magenta long straight hair with a grayish-white gradient highlight at the hair ends had a strong sense of layering under the lights, but it was very exhausting to comb through. In terms of makeup, to fit the atmosphere, I specially used light grayish-white contact lenses, deepened the dark smudging around the eyes, and elongated the lines at the outer corners of the eyes, making the gaze look sharper. To secure those white square folded stickers on the chest, I used quite a bit of double-sided tape, worrying that they would fall off if I bent over slightly or made large movements. The shooting scene was decorated quite gorgeously. A red curtain served as the background, paired with white deadwood props and vintage candlesticks with pearl string decorations, plus pink-purple-red tone ambient lighting, and the resulting photos were stunningly amazing. Because the layers of the costume were so rich, I tried various poses like standing and lying flat in front of the lens, while also making sure the huge skirt hem wouldn't crush the props nearby. When shooting, to focus on the clothing details and overall atmosphere, the photographer used flower decorations to cover the face during framing, which unexpectedly added a sense of mystery to the frame. As a cosplayer who frequently portrays various complex characters, I am somewhat confident in my ability to handle costumes, but this set is definitely the difficulty ceiling I've encountered recently. The huge volume and cumbersome accessories kept my entire shooting process in a state of high tension. Fortunately, the light, shadow, and texture of the final photos all reached the expected effects, and the red and black contrast as well as the color contrast of the wig on the monitor were quite intense. However, after this experience, I've decided never to challenge such a complex styling in the short term again; it's truly exhausting.
