This time I tried on Asuka's Red bodysuit combat suit from Neon Genesis Evangelion EVA. The entire outfit is crafted from high-gloss stretch fabric, which demands a very close fit to body contours, and its reflective effect under natural light is exceptionally strong. To prevent wrinkles and wardrobe malfunctions during the Cosplay fitting, careful base undergarments are essential underneath; the moment the zipper is pulled up, you feel tightly wrapped by the suit.
The tailoring of this outfit is more demanding than imagined because glossy materials magnify any physique imperfections infinitely, so controlling diet and water intake slightly before the try-on was necessary to make the lines smoother. Additionally, the paired red gloves and tall footwear are an integrated design, easily feeling tight, requiring extra care when walking around at home. The orange twin-tail wig on my head was also carefully groomed, adjusting the bangs and volume on both sides to better align with the Anime-style fashion character.
I chose to take a few full-body shots in front of the mirror at home, partly to test the fabric's light reflection and partly to check whether the chest and leg lines look natural from the side profile. Compared to posed shoots, I prefer this simulated everyday Cosplay fitting feel. For instance, when standing sideways, the tension generated by the bodysuit around the waist and hips is very noticeable, requiring constant adjustments to the standing posture.
Although this outfit is form-fitting, it presents many challenges in actual shooting. For instance, being a Red bodysuit, going to the restroom is extremely troublesome, and high-gloss materials aren't breathable, making you sweat with just slight movements. Especially during the try-on, I had to watch the light behind me to prevent overly harsh reflections from disrupting the original color and texture.
This Cosplay fitting was mainly to test the tailoring and adjust the wig flow rather than rushing to produce the final official photos. I hope to achieve better synergy with the photographer during the subsequent formal shoot to express the character's unique demeanor. For cosplay costumes with special fabrics, the fitting process itself is a form of refinement, requiring you to maintain the character's look while ensuring you don't look too stiff in front of the camera. As a try-on record, the waist-to-leg proportions and side profile in the photos basically met my expectations; next up is finding suitable outdoor lighting.
