Recently, I completed a few sets of completely different anime convention cosplay looks at the studio. Taking advantage of my relatively free schedule, I've sorted out this set of photos, which can also be seen as a review of my recent shooting state. From Chinese style styling oil-paper umbrella looks to the classic sailor suit with black stockings, each outfit corresponds to a different shooting scene and emotional expression.
Let's first talk about the main image on the left. This look, featuring white hair and animal ears paired with an improved black cheongsam, has its overall visual focus on the white oil-paper umbrella and bell accessories. Since my height is 164cm, weight is 52kg, and measurements are 85-72-86, this kind of outfit with a distinct waistline and some material contrast happens to highlight the body curves. During the shoot, the white stockings combined with using a wooden chair as a footrest made the curves of the crossed legs look very extended. This is a small detail I really like, as it both retains the modesty of a traditional cheongsam and adds a lightweight feel visually.
The look in the right image, featuring a sailor suit paired with black over-the-knee socks, is presented in a lively, school-style direction. This classic JK uniform style heavily tests the cleanliness of the makeup and body expressiveness. During the shooting process, I tried my best to keep the sitting posture natural without appearing too loose. The strong color block contrast between the black socks and the white skirt hem can beautifully elongate the leg lines, making it a highly popular coordination type among photography enthusiasts in convention photos.
The other photos challenge more diverse scenes. For instance, the look of cradling a plush toy on an indoor leather sofa focuses on creating a lazy and soft-cute vibe; in the handcart scene of an industrial-style warehouse, pairing a plaid pleated skirt with a sailor suit creates a kind of outdoor hardcore visual contrast. There are also two outdoor locations at the stadium stands and by the beach. Especially for the beach photo, the sea breeze blew up the hair and clothes, coordinating with the giant blue prop in hand to fill the entire photo with a dynamic sense of breathing, forming a very sharp contrast with the indoor studio shoots.
As a print enthusiast who frequently visits anime conventions and shooting locations, I deeply know that different lighting environments and clothing materials all require corresponding makeup and wig care methods. In this photo shoot diary set, the hairstyles range from long straight white hair and gradient green hair to blue-purple hair. Every time I changed outfits, I needed to readjust the line layers on the head model to ensure that no obvious frizz would appear under any high-definition DSLR lens. Although the preparation process is tedious, seeing the light, shadow, and clothing textures all fall into place in the final photos makes me feel it's extremely worth it.
Ordinarily, I also pay close attention to controlling my posture. For example, when shooting sitting poses, how to make the knees cross naturally without looking stiff, or even how to grasp the interaction angles with props like the handcart and oil-paper umbrella, are all key factors that affect the final frame effect. Because I have a certain aesthetic pursuit for composition, communication regarding on-site lighting and angles is exceptionally smooth when cooperating with photographers for our cosplay photography.
Currently, my schedule is indeed very open, and I can accept anime convention live shoots, free passes, or customized official photos. Whether it's a vibrant and lively school style, a grand classical Chinese style, or a fresh outdoor scene, I am willing to try and cooperate. In the cosplay industry, mindset and state are vital; enjoying the process of shaping different characters in front of the lens is more important than anything else.
