Today, I shot Sailor Moon Ami Mizuno cosplay photos in the classroom. Ami Mizuno is a character I've always wanted to try portraying; as the calmest and most rational honor student among the Sailor Guardians, the gentle yet resolute temperament she carries appeals to me immensely. To faithfully recreate her most classic campus look, I poured plenty of preparatory effort into both costume and makeup.
The wig was chosen in a highly saturated bright blue, trimmed into a neat shoulder-length bob, matched with eye makeup featuring aqua-blue contact lenses to highlight Ami's cool yet tender gaze. On the costume side, it features the classic blue-and-white-striped sailor collar paired with a massive, vibrant red bow across the chest, layered beneath a gray long-sleeved knit cardigan. The texture of this gray sweater is exceptionally soft and doesn't look bulky when worn. The lower half consists of a classic bright blue pleated skirt; I purposely ironed every single pleat so the skirt displays a natural arc during movement. Paired with white mid-calf socks and brown flat loafers, the overall coordinate exudes a thoroughly orthodox Japanese school style cosplay vibe. Of course, props are equally indispensable—I prepared a vintage brown leather school bag that instantly transports anyone right back to the anime's campus era.
The shooting location was chosen as the most familiar place of all: the classroom. Chalkboards, wooden desks, and the podium—these backdrops inherently carry an aura of youth and nostalgia. Thanks to the photographer's lens capture, we invested considerable thought into lighting management. To emphasize the subject's three-dimensional depth, the photographer utilized rim/back lighting casting across the Blue hair cosplay and side profile, establishing a stunning halo outline. While shooting the first pose series, I attempted resting my chin in my hand with my other hand on my hip. This posture is actually a recurring gesture whenever Ami falls into thought, effectively demonstrating her confidence and composure as the Guardian of Mercury while bringing out a hint of student playfulness. I kept my gaze as focused as possible, staring directly into the lens, hoping to transmit her straightforward yet tender foundational personality.
Later, I experimented with a pose carrying the school bag and doing an over-the-shoulder look-back. The facial expression for this series relaxed significantly; once settled into quietness, the overall character atmosphere turned much more restrained. Holding the brown leather bag in hand, matched with the classroom's warm-toned lighting, it felt precisely like Ami Mizuno finishing after-school cleaning duty and preparing to leave the classroom. In truth, executing a character portrayal successfully goes far beyond simply donning the costume and wig; more crucially, it requires bridging one's own emotions with the character's disposition before the lens. Ami is a girl who pursues perfection in both battle and academics, which is why during shooting intervals I continuously recalibrated my state, striving to ensure every shutter click's gaze aligned closely with her setting.
I thoroughly enjoyed this classroom shooting session; bringing my favorite character to life in my own way is an exceptionally fulfilling achievement. Power of Mercury, shining through every moment of focus and persistence.
