Considerable care and effort went into staging the set for this photoshoot. To recreate that classic academic atmosphere, we scouted an empty classroom and covered the walls and ceiling densely with test papers, review worksheets, and certificates of merit. The floor was intentionally strewn with crumpled paper balls, accented by bold red satin ribbons and banners, instantly establishing a claustrophobic, high-pressure visual tension across the space.
For the wardrobe, I opted for an essential yet classic Sailor suit uniform: a white short-sleeved top paired with a pleated navy skirt and a bright yellow neckerchief knotted at the chest, evoking the quintessential model student vibe. To introduce a scholarly touch, I wore a pair of bold black-framed glasses. The bottom half was coordinated with over-the-knee White stockings and glossy black patent leather loafers—a timeless combination in campus-themed portraits.
During the session, the lighting served as the true soul of the composition. We made deliberate use of harsh natural sunlight pouring through the classroom windows; casting onto the test-papered walls, the daylight not only layered the scene with rich dimension, but also illuminated the subject's rim contours cleanly. In the opening shot, I sat atop the wooden desk cradling an open textbook, wrapped in cascading red satin ribbons. This pose was designed to manifest the sensation of being bound and constricted by academic burdens and societal rules; the vivid red ribbon popped boldly against the backdrop, shattering the monotony of the black, white, and gray tones.
The second frame captured me slumped across the desktop, resting my cheek on my hand while holding a pen with a vacant, unfocused gaze—a posture capturing the bone-deep mental fatigue of prolonged studying. The cross-legged sitting posture accentuated leg contours from the flank, where the crisp White stockings and patent shoes created a striking aesthetic contrast against the surrounding chaos.
Overall, this production did not seek a grand, complex narrative, but aimed to transport viewers back to those high-strung school days through nuanced interplay between setting, wardrobe, and emotional cues. Seeking order amidst clutter and revealing youth beneath exhaustion, that surrealistic emotional tension remains the most fulfilling achievement of this creative journey.
