[Leizi the Thunderbringer cosplay] Thunder Clears the Haze, the Path Ahead is Bright: Leizi of the Yanese Tianshi Bureau Reports for Duty

Thunder clears the haze, and the path ahead is bright. Embodying Leizi the Thunderbringer of the Yanese Tianshi Bureau, I completed this photoshoot in an Autumn ginkgo forest.

Choosing this golden ginkgo grove was because the character's primary color palette features expansive bright yellow robes, allowing the two to achieve great visual harmony. Surrounded by trees and a ground blanketed in ginkgo leaves, the light filtering through the canopy cast a warm, upright, and pure ambiance over the entire photo set.

The fabric texture of the costume for this shoot is quite unique; the thick material has low reflectivity under natural light, absorbing light rather than bouncing it. The outer robe has an excellent drape, and the gentle billow as I walked was captured perfectly on camera. The grain of the wooden staff prop is finely detailed, with a balanced weight in hand that prevents it from feeling flimsy. The antler-shaped headdress and the tail behind me also boast great texture—especially the tail, with its fluffy fur showing a warm light brown under outdoor light. To maintain character accuracy, we spent considerable time refining details beforehand, such as aligning the headdress precisely in the center and securing the tail firmly with the sash, as these details directly dictate the final presentation.

With the ground covered in a thick layer of fallen leaves, the rustling sound underfoot added a distinct atmosphere to the entire shooting process. In late autumn afternoons, light shifts quickly, requiring the photographer to precisely seize the moments when sunlight pierced the forest edges and canopy gaps. Shooting from a slight low angle and utilizing the guiding lines created by surrounding tree trunks enhanced spatial depth, magnifying the subject's commanding presence standing in the center. Capturing the gaze was also crucial: it had to convey the sharpness of lightning clearing the haze while preserving the dignified, detached poise of the Yanese Tianshi Bureau. Thus, we constantly adjusted the facial lighting angle to prevent harsh sunlight from making expressions appear overly strained.

For post-processing, the focus lay on maintaining the natural golden translucency of the ginkgo leaves without exaggerated color stacking. Adjustments mainly centered on brightening backlit shadows and unifying colors to ensure the character's bright yellow outfit did not blend into the yellow foliage of the background. The skin was kept translucent with minimal skin-smoothing filters, preserving authentic skin texture.

Cosplaying this character in such a season and setting was a refreshing experience, as the shifting outdoor natural light and environment greatly contributed to character portrayal. It allowed me to immerse myself deeper into the lore while feeling the character's stylistic charm through the authentic setting. The success of this outdoor cosplay shoot was thanks to the harmony of proper lighting and location, as well as the photographer's patient communication and candid capture throughout.
