[Yotsuba cosplay] TGS 2026 Pearl in Blue: Pink and White Hoodie & Prop Sword

The convention schedule for TGS 2026 was packed to the brim, but this Yotsuba look was finally presented on stage in its complete form. From finalizing the design scheme to the final realization, the team and I spent considerable time refining the details. Today, I mainly want to talk through some practical experiences regarding this outfit and styling on the bustling event floor.

First, regarding the main attire: it's a pink-and-white color-blocked pullover hoodie. To prevent the textile from appearing flimsy under intense convention lights, we deliberately chose a fabric with substantial weight and clean draping. The thick red braided cord across the chest serves as the visual centerpiece of the ensemble; I secured its knotting in place so it wouldn't easily loosen while walking with the sword strapped to my back. The blue tassels and knotted cords on the garment weren't pre-made industrial accessories either—they were hand-rewrapped and trimmed so their length drapes neatly beside the waist, contrasting against the red cord to introduce dimensional layering. The ribbed cuffs of the pink sleeves fit snugly, which actually offered a great practical advantage: when repeatedly raising my arms to adjust hair or touch the headset on the convention floor, the sleeves never slid down, facilitating easy movement.

Next, the accessories and makeup. For this light golden-blonde short bob wig, the trickiest part was definitely the ahoge (cowlick) on top. To ensure it stayed upright from any camera angle, a fine wire structure was embedded inside. The yellow butterfly hairpin on the left might seem casual, but it took testing several placements before locking it down, avoiding wig seam lines while harmonizing with the overarching color palette. To complement the character's lively vibe, the base makeup was kept clean and luminous, centering on light-colored contact lenses, a subtle pink lip gloss, and minimal heavy contouring. The headset was a crucial prop this time; the curvature of the headband and the sponge microphone had to fit my facial contours snugly, otherwise side profile shots would easily reveal awkward gaps.

I especially want to highlight the hand details. The white bandages wrapped around the fingers and the delicate silver rings were styled to capture specific character settings. On the convention floor, such details are notoriously tough to maintain, as you're constantly holding water bottles, adjusting props, and communicating poses with photographers. That's why I packed spare bandages to rewrap my fingers before takes, balancing a raw, frayed edge with clean neatness.

The long sword strapped to my back served as the other core visual anchor. The off-white fabric strips wound around the hilt were applied by hand, with weathering paint brushed onto key areas to simulate the worn texture of long-term usage. The blue, white, and orange geometric pendant hanging from the pommel, along with the red cord tied across the scabbard, were designed to echo the elements on the hoodie, bringing the full color scheme into a cohesive loop. Navigating the crowded TGS 2026 halls with this broadsword was a true test of stamina—especially in bottlenecks, where I had to stay constantly alert so the hilt wouldn't bump into passing attendees.

The ambient lighting on site was quite complex, alternating between blue and white booth spotlights, which can easily overexpose pale, pastel garments like pink and white. During shooting, I constantly adjusted my stance, leveraging the booth's side-rim lighting to outline the hoodie's silhouette while keeping facial illumination soft and even. Wearing the headset also made communicating with the photographer far smoother, letting us coordinate desired angles and poses without having to shout over the noisy convention floor.

Shooting on site at a major convention is always an all-around test of costume durability, props, and endurance. While exhausting, seeing the light, shadow, and color pop on the camera's raw previews makes all the preparation completely worthwhile.
