[Souda cosplay] Tactical Maid in Goddess of Victory: Nikke: Cleaning Time is Here

Portraying the character of Souda, I've constantly been pondering how to express the premise of being both a maid and a warrior. This costume features numerous elements: the black-and-white Maid outfit paired with a tactical belt and headpiece. Right from selecting fabrics and trims, I wanted to stay as faithful to the original design as possible. My own hair color matched the tone of the wig seamlessly, and combined with this green-handled broom prop, the overall visual tone was set. The photoshoot took place in an indoor corridor with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, where natural daylight was abundant. The cool tones of the glass curtain walls and metal railings nicely contrasted with the white fabric and black ribbons of the costume itself. The photographer's candid framing was vital, as we were still brainstorming how to hold the mop/broom without making it look like mundane housework.

Maintaining balance in these standing and leg-lifting poses was actually quite challenging and really tested leg strength. I deliberately chose mid-heeled black Mary Janes for my feet, so that when pulling off playful poses—like standing on one leg while lifting the skirt hem—the curve of the instep and the transition to the White stockings would look even more flattering. The skirt features voluminous pleats; lifting it slightly at that moment showcases the safety shorts and thigh ring details underneath. Speaking of the thigh ring, it's a delightful highlight of this Tactical gear styling: the dark tactical thigh ring fastened over the White stockings creates a sharp visual contrast, which many fellow fans appreciate. Combined with the tailored bust cut and the pale yellow bow at the neckline, these details bring the entire outfit together.

For lighting, we made the most of the overexposed highlights from the windows to accentuate facial contours, giving the skin texture a luminous transparency. There were actually quite a few passersby in the hallway during shooting, but the photographer skillfully framed out background distractions, keeping the focus entirely on me; staying completely immersed in character under such conditions was a challenge in itself. Although Souda wears a Maid outfit, she possesses formidable action prowess. I aimed to convey that efficient, earnest drive rather than just a stereotypical soft and cute maid. Holding the broom with a slightly more upright posture and a resolute gaze made the feeling click instantly.

My personal take is that a Maid outfit often conveys a relaxed domestic vibe, but framed within this character's lore, it carries a sense of mission and vibrant energy for executing combat tasks. In managing expressions, I tried to look straight at the lens while maintaining the organic alertness of a preparatory stance. What satisfied me most throughout this shoot was the synergy between the props in hand and the footwear. Despite the premise of cleaning for Master, I didn't want my gestures to look overly subservient, but rather infused with crisp, spirited confidence. The white daylight in the corridor was very strong, so post-processing avoided heavy color grading, preserving translucent layers so the visuals remained clean and luminous.

Finding a location with such airy lighting in a convention hall or indoor corridor is no easy feat. Although the shooting session wasn't exceptionally long, repeatedly fine-tuning the poses took considerable effort. I truly love how the final cuts turned out, and I hope everyone can feel this unique charm where the Maid outfit meets Tactical gear in Goddess of Victory: Nikke.
