[Cartethyia Cosplay] Stepping into the Hall of Mirrors: White Magic and Blue Phantoms Flowing at the Fingertips

The protagonist of this shoot is Cartethyia from Wuthering Waves. The tailoring of the outfit is quite demanding on body proportions; the contrasting black, white, and blue design, combined with a sweeping gradient gauze robe, creates an airy, graceful motion when walking. The high-collared black choker and cut-out top add visual depth, while the blue vine motifs and golden trim on the chest enhance its overall refinement.

For the makeup, to fit the elven aesthetic, light blue contacts were paired with pointed elf ears, adorned with white vines and blue wing-shaped headpieces on the forehead, harmonizing the overall color palette across white, blue, and gold.

The shooting location was a classical grand hall featuring stained glass and white sculpted pillars. The highlight of the venue was the completely flat black mirror floor, which cast a perfect mirror reflection of both the subject and the surroundings. To build a dreamy atmosphere, we arranged a lavish spread of blue flowers on set to resonate with the gradient blue of the dress, while the light filtering through the stained glass added a layer of warm tones to the scene.

During the actual shoot, because the floor was entirely mirrored, movement and composition had to be extraordinarily precise. We had to balance the pose of the character while ensuring the completeness of the reflection; a slight misstep could ruin the framing or trigger erratic glare. The first capture shows me holding a glowing orb; the photographer utilized foreground light spots and strong background contrast to create an evocative focal point, making the magical aura around the hands look remarkably vivid. A few layers of lighting effects were added in post-production to make it look as though I were genuinely holding a sphere of light.

The subsequent seated and standing shots were primarily meant to showcase the skirt's layering and leg contours. Since the overall character design is barefoot, paired with delicate ankle chains and white ribbon ties, the mirror reflection visually elongated the legs. For the shots sitting on the Roman pillar, I switched to glasses and held small props to introduce a subtle sense of contrast.

Because the fabric of this costume is quite lightweight—especially the gauze outer robe, which easily curls or gets ruffled by movement—we had to repeatedly smooth out the train to maintain clean, fluid lines. Overall, from the costume's craftsmanship and set staging to the final graphic composition, the shoot completely lived up to my expectations.
