[Tashkent cosplay] Azur Lane: Christmas Elegance in a Vintage Study

This shoot was finalized early in the month, selecting a studio space furnished with dark antique bookshelves and heavy red velvet drapery. To embrace the holiday spirit, the set was adorned with a Christmas tree, gift boxes, and a red Santa hat, while the warm glow of candlelight layered the entire room with rich depth.

For the wardrobe, I picked a black bodycon dress paneled with shimmering sequins; the intricate silver rhinestones across the bust sparkled brilliantly beneath the studio lights. Layered on top was a thick, plush white faux-fur shawl, which not only created a striking visual contrast against the black dress but also functioned as an organic reflector, softening facial shadows during takes. For the lower half, classic sheer black stockings were paired with strappy stiletto heels. Crowned with a purple wig and a black lace headpiece, the entire look sought to capture a cool, seductive presence laced with holiday languor.

We shot with a Sony A7M5 paired with the 24-70mm GM II lens. This setup offered lightning-fast autofocus, locking unfailingly onto eye tracking even under complex indoor illumination. To preserve the lush texture of the fur stole and the smooth gradient transitions across the black hosiery, the aperture was primarily kept between f/2.8 and f/4. For lighting, we avoided harsh key lights, instead leveraging natural side-backlight near the windows alongside warm candle fills to reveal gorgeous gradient highlights throughout the purple wig.

While raw captures held plenty of mood, red-and-black dominant palettes often risk muddying skin tones into dull greys. Therefore, careful color grading was performed in Lightroom: unifying background color temperature, deepening red values, and lifting tonal separation within the dark clothing. In Photoshop, skin retouching preserved natural pore texture. To heighten a painterly, oil-canvas quality, a soft bloom effect was applied as a final pass—letting highlights bleed gently outward so the edges of the plush fur and glittering sequins gained a dreamlike glow.

The entire session flowed effortlessly; Tashkent's composed, cool temperament harmonized seamlessly with this holiday aesthetic. Studio sessions require balancing countless elements—from wig consistency and wardrobe smoothing to precise light placement—yet seeing the final unity of light, shadow, and subject made every step of preparation and post-production refinement entirely worthwhile.
