[Angel police cosplay] Black and white uniform in rurudo style, capturing cool elegance in a mirror selfie

This Angel police outfit design comes from artist rurudo. Taking advantage of the decent lighting, I took a few mirror selfies in my room. The visual impact of the black and white uniform color scheme is striking; the cropped top paired with a pleated skirt, along with the metallic cross pendant in the middle of the tie, immediately adds depth to the upper body. The white wig has plenty of volume, so when wearing the glossy black military cap, I had to adjust the bangs and brim overhang slightly to avoid making the forehead area look overly puffy.

On the back is a pair of white wings. Although I needed to lean against the wall to balance when putting them on, standing in front of the mirror for a while with the weight pressing on my shoulders actually helped me naturally straighten my posture. I chose short white gloves, which echo visually with the white thigh-high stockings and patent leather boots. Finding the right clasp position for the garter straps is tricky—if pulled too tight, it leaves marks on the legs, but if too loose, it slides down. To get that just-right snugness on camera, I adjusted it multiple times in front of the mirror.

Since I took this mirror selfie completely on my own without any help, holding the phone myself, I took half a step back to fit both my full body and wings into the frame. The chunky heel on the military boots elongates the leg line, which, paired with the miniskirt length, creates a more slender proportion. The key is the exposed waist area, requiring me to tuck in my stomach slightly to keep the thin black strap straight. Angling the phone camera slightly downward prevented top lighting from casting a heavy cap-brim shadow over my face.

When shooting this cool, stylish look, obscuring facial features actually makes it easier to immerse oneself in the character's atmosphere. The light in the mirror came from the top-side angle; the matte texture of the white top subtly reveals fabric grain under the light. The biggest mistake with a black and white uniform is looking dull, so I incorporated patent leather boots and a glossy cap brim, using varied shine levels to break up the monotony of monochrome blocks. The metal cross pendant rests right below the chest, serving as a great visual anchor.

The prop wings have rich feather layers, which appear even larger in the mirror reflection—a natural compositional advantage for this character. Raising the arm holding the phone slightly creates noticeable light reflections on the white glove, a subtle detail that adds life to the shot rather than looking like a rigid, static pose.

The costume has a very form-fitting cut, especially around the waist where there's zero room for extra weight. I actually skipped a meal beforehand just for these photos, but thankfully I'm very pleased with the waistline in the final result. In post-processing, I mainly cleaned up leg-edge reflections and minor blemishes while adjusting highlight brightness, avoiding heavy filter rendering to maintain a clean, sharp texture.

Trying to pull off this minimal black and white color scheme with an anime-style uniform feel tests both the garment's tailoring and the overall styling cohesion. While the white wings and white wig are softer visual elements, the hard black cap and riveted leather boots introduce an edge of aggressiveness—a blend of soft and sharp that is signature to rurudo's character designs. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with bringing this cool yet sharp visual style into reality.
