[Tingyun cosplay] The Fox-eared girl in Honkai: Star Rail, Soft Moments Under Warm Light - Image 1

This time I'm sharing the official Tingyun cosplay photoshoot from Honkai: Star Rail, which took an entire week from preparation to final release. For the makeup design, I intentionally lowered the color saturation of the eye makeup, using warm brown and cyan tones to echo the original design, and the green colored contacts make the gaze appear more translucent. The wig underwent layered styling, with light-colored highlights on the side adding a sense of dimension. I manually glued metal flower plates and red tassels onto the hair accessories, fixing every single bead with tweezers just to recreate that light yet gorgeous texture. In terms of costume, the hardest part of this modified off-the-shoulder ancient style outfit was the 3D golden flower at the waist. To keep it standing upright and well-shaped, I buried fine iron wires inside and covered it with sequin fabric, allowing it to shimmer with a metallic luster under the light. The flower decorations on the arms were also hand-sewn; though quite heavy, these were necessary sacrifices for the visual effect.

The lighting on the day of the shoot was very interesting; we specifically chose 3:00 PM to utilize natural light filtering through the window screen to form soft side backlighting. The photographer set up a warm fill light on the right side, brightening my cheeks and shoulders while causing the round ball hanging ornaments behind me to generate cute bokeh circles. That fluffy mass of a tail in the lower left corner was actually a large piece of faux fox fur. To create a blurring effect, I placed the tail very close to the lens, letting the out-of-focus area form a creamy bokeh, so the visual focus would naturally fall on my face and the folding fan in my hand. The fan itself was hand-painted, with the red, white, and black geometric patterns being almost identical to the original design, and it felt solid in my hand, making a crisp snap of bamboo ribs when opened and closed.

For the set decoration, I specially brought a hand-painted paper lantern and persimmon tree-shaped decorations. These elements blend perfectly with the character's Eastern background, filling the entire frame with the warmth of autumn. While setting up the lights, I constantly adjusted the angles to make the shadows fall on the ink-wash fabric curtain behind me, increasing the layering and storytelling of the image. As a cosplayer, what I enjoy most about every shoot is polishing the details, repeatedly comparing everything with the original art, from the curve of the eyelashes to the nail polish shade. We actually took nearly a hundred photos during this shoot, but in the end, only this single one was selected to be released as the official photo, because the gaze in this one is the most serene and the light and shadow are the most balanced. The overall atmosphere perfectly presents Tingyun's composed yet slightly mysterious temperament. The happiest part of doing Anime cosplay is being able to bring a 2D character into reality through your own hands; even if it's just a frozen moment, it is exciting enough. I hope this photo under the warm light allows you to feel the dedication I poured into it.
