The preparation cycle for this styling took a bit longer than anticipated, mainly to capture that ethereal lightness and opulent texture. The entire attire is built on three primary hues: white, peach pink, and coral orange. The top features a boned corset tube-top design, overlaid with a layer of white semi-sheer gossamer styled into wavy flounces. The sleeves are voluminous wide sleeves made by layering chiffon and organza with exceptional drape, so during movement, the sleeve cuffs display an effortless, floating grace. The skirt and waist sides are accented with gold embroidery and metallic floral appliqués, while the golden auspicious cloud ornament on the chest serves as the outfit's visual focal point; its position was adjusted numerous times to produce dimensional prismatic glints under the lights.
The golden crown atop my head is heavily crafted, incorporating motifs of blossoms, butterflies, and tassels. The dangling buyao hairpins along the sides softly chimed with each step; to keep them poised at the best angle during shooting, I spent nearly an hour securing them with countless bobby pins and hairspray. For the wig, I selected long straight pale pink-white hair, creating a White hair styling base where the bangs were thinned and fluffed, with delicate thin braids framing both sides to add visual layers. The focal point of the makeup was bright green contact lenses, creating a striking visual contrast with the pale hair. Peach-pink eyeshadow was blended along the outer eye corners, dusted with subtle glitter across the lower lids, and finished with a pale pink lip glaze—softening the sharpness of the green contacts and giving the overall look a gentle radiance.
The Lotus lantern prop held in hand was custom-made, embedded with a warm LED light strip that cast an orange glow in dim environments, perfectly illuminating my facial contours. The set was dressed with a black backdrop, pink plum blossom branches, and a carved wooden folding screen. For lighting, we avoided overly convoluted setups: the key light was a continuous warm-temperature fixture, complemented by side-backlighting to chisel the subject's silhouette. To generate a soft, dreamy ambiance, a piece of sheer fabric was placed in front of the lens as a foreground element, naturally lending a hazy, dreamy filter effect. Most of this Traditional style cosplay shoot took place at night, as low-light conditions best highlighted the metallic gold sheen of the outfit and the self-illuminating Lotus lantern prop.
Because the lightweight fabric tended to crease after extended wear, I kept an eye on smoothing out the skirt throughout the session. Beyond the headwear and dress, I styled a jade bangle on my wrist and a red pendant choker around my neck; though multicolored, controlled saturation prevented visual clutter. To elevate the celestial feel of this Chinese-style photography session, in addition to the lotus lantern, I prepared white silk gossamer for throwing and framing lens-veiling shots.
The entire shoot was truly a dual endurance test of stamina and patience. The sheer weight of the headpiece restricted sharp head movements, while the voluminous sleeves easily blocked sightlines while posing. To capture that weightless fluttering ribbon effect, the angle of the silk scarf and arm placements had to be continuously adjusted. In post-processing, we mainly cleaned up environmental color noise, preserving the original warm palette to keep skin luminous while boosting the metallic highlights. The yield rate of this set was quite high; the color interplay between the lighting and the costume was the most satisfying element, culminating in a wonderfully complete visual presentation of this Honor of Kings cosplay.
