[Pearl Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Return at Singapore HoYoFEST: Details Behind This Look

For Day 2 at Singapore HoYoFEST, I specially brought out this Pearl cosplay outfit. Looking back at the overall styling, I have plenty of practical tips and insights from my Casual cosplay experience that I'd love to share with everyone.

Regarding the wig, the pale golden strands naturally have great luster, but trimming and layering the bangs were critical to achieving the character's signature look. Since the hair ends needed a teal-blue gradient, I applied several shades of hair dye spray using multiple light coats. Color layering on synthetic wigs can easily clump, so after each spray, I combed it smooth with a wide-tooth comb before applying hairspray, ultimately maintaining a lightweight, fluffy texture. The small black ribbons tied on both sides were the finishing touch, softening the overall silhouette while making the fluffy twin-tails look neat and crisp.

The combination of makeup and contact lenses was another highlight of this look. I chose light-purple lenses with high translucency that naturally catch and reflect light under convention overhead lamps. For base makeup, I opted for a strong oil-control matte foundation, as Singapore's weather is humid and warm, and staying power had to be rock-solid across two consecutive convention days. For eye makeup, I simplified colors, focusing on natural contours for eyeliner and aegyo sal, paired with a soft matte rose-pink lip tint to integrate a touch of personal flair into this sci-fi aesthetic.

Structurally, beyond the light color scheme, the most eye-catching part of the costume was the 3D design at the collar. A white lapel collar served as the base, overlaid with metallic decorations on a black backdrop, forming chest layering via geometric cutout lines. To ensure these cutout patterns remained crisp and structured while wearing, I added a hidden layer of interfacing behind the lining. The colorful gem pendant below was also reinforced with specialized adhesive to prevent it from swinging or snagging on other props while walking. The outer semi-sheer white blouse paired with pink-to-white gradient puff sleeves bestowed the overall look with both the character's serene, mysterious aura and a dreamlike touch tailored to a convention setting.

The forehead ornament was actually the detail requiring the most delicate touch. Rather than simply taping it on, I backed it with a transparent silicone pad as a cushion to conform better to my forehead's contour and prevent harsh glare. The glowing geometric ring headpiece atop my head had incredible visual recognition across the venue; however, due to its delicate material, I was extremely cautious while walking around to avoid bumps from the crowd. I prepared two attachment methods beforehand—clip fixation and transparent nylon fishing line assistance—opting for a combined approach today to ensure it stayed perfectly positioned during indoor walks and selfies.

The two photos shared today were shot against different backdrops. The first was taken in a venue corridor with even lighting, specifically highlighting fine details, makeup state, and the texture of metallic costume components. The second was taken in the arcade section, where neon lighting reflected off my hair strands and headpiece to create a narrative-rich atmosphere. I also brought the character's signature white plush headpiece prop for the photoshoot, wrapping it in a plastic bag to prevent stains and adjusting camera angles during shooting so my eyes remained visible in these Convention photos.

This trip to Singapore HoYoFEST required more energy than imagined, from costume preparation to maintaining condition on site. However, seeing everyone interact enthusiastically based on Honkai: Star Rail characters made every bit of preparation completely worth it. I personally favor outfits that combine mechanical details with soft color accents. On Day 2 of the convention, the head-turning rate was wonderful!
