[Vulpisfoglia cosplay] Arknights 7th Anniversary: A tranquil moment in an out-of-focus state

Bringing this out-of-focus styling of Vulpisfoglia to life took considerable dedication from fittings to the final shoot. Upon receiving the costume, the first elements that caught my eye were the black spiked ornaments across the chest. These spikes are not flat patterns but three-dimensional structures; putting them on required immense care to avoid snagging the wig or the dark underlayer. The wide purple sleeves are patterned with white blossoms, offering a silky tactile sheen, but their oversized cut and golden edge trims meant keeping physical gestures controlled so the silhouette wouldn't distort.

The Animal ears were anchored with a headband, paired with long blonde hair with blunt bangs and slender side braids. This setup required copious hairspray to hold its form, with pink-orange gradient tips deliberately added as a subtle nuance. The reddish-brown colored contacts and the crimson blending at the outer eye corners anchored the makeup; to capture her character essence, I kept my gaze steady and focused without exaggerated facial expressions, channeling a reserved, aloof poise. The black spikes along the neck and collarbones demanded precise skin fit—slight movements shifted their position, requiring constant micro-adjustments between takes.

The studio lighting leaned warm, where dark timber bookshelves and an antique desk lamp cultivated the ambiance of an old-world study. Ceramic teacups, crystal decanters, and quill pens on the desk served as wonderful interactive props. Leaning sideways against the desk with a quill in hand, my gaze locked onto the lens. To seize the most natural defocus effect, the photographer tested various focal lengths, striking a harmony between sharp detail and soft blur. The landscape composition required me to lean diagonally across the table; holding this pose for extended takes left my lower back aching, yet seeing the contrast between the purple floral prints and the moody backdrop made it completely worthwhile.

This defocus concept went beyond manipulating camera focal planes—it was about using body language and eye contact to convey a tranquil yet palpable tension. The purple blossoms stood out brilliantly against the dark palette, while pearl chains and sharp black ornaments provided an intriguing visual juxtaposition. Undertaking this shoot deepened my resonance with the character. From the delicate fabric textures to the antique props, every element coalesced to serve the overarching atmosphere. Between wardrobe fixes, I monitored the previews to verify that the light falling across my face preserved the delicate textures of the makeup. The shoot proceeded at a steady pace, and the final results achieved exactly what we envisioned.
