When shooting this SakiMutsu cosplay set, the location was chosen at a very classical European manor hall. At first, seeing the venue made me quite nervous because the hall's lighting was very distinct, featuring highly reflective marble floors and ornate glass windows. This contrast between bright light and surroundings presented a huge test for color restoration on costumes and makeup.
This time, the Ave Mujica crossover with Arknights costumes featured abundant details, and we mainly chose black and white Gothic dresses. My outfit included signature black twisted horns, paired with a three-layer black skirt, plus black stockings reaching the thigh and high heels, drawing the overall visual center of gravity downward. Meanwhile, Wakaba Mutsumi cosplay wore a huge black wide-brimmed hat emblazoned with a crescent moon pattern, cradling her iconic white rabbit plushie in her arms, adding an extra dimension of mysterious tranquility. The long-handled cross sword displayed a great metallic sheen under the light; holding it added weight while serving as a fantastic prop to assist in posing.
The shooting process was actually filled with challenges. The expansive highlights and deep shadows in the photos relied entirely on authentic real-world sunlight on set. To capture the most ideal light-and-shadow contrast, we sought out numerous angles. For instance, in the shot where both of us sat together on an ornate European carved chair, sunlight happened to slant across walls and floor, stretching shadows long while the marble ground mirrored a complete reflection. Taking this shot required both of us to adjust seating postures to maintain balance simultaneously while managing the layers of black tights and skirt hems—it was quite challenging, but the final outcome was genuinely satisfying.
In posing, to express character styles, we attempted various interactive postures. Some used the long sword as a support point while standing, some sat before a dark gold-accented desk reaching out a hand, and others leaned back against white marble pillars taking photos with statues. Every single frame required readjustment based on ambient lighting and composition. In particular, for those indoor panorama shots, the photographer repeatedly shifted camera positioning to pursue grand-frame symmetrical aesthetics and perspective depth. In the final captured images, the Duo cosplay positioning, skirt pleats, sheer texture of black stockings, and exquisite high heels were all presented comprehensively within frame.
The overall style of this photo set leans toward high-contrast cool tones. Classical glass windows and chandeliers, white walls, and ornate gold picture frames—these elements combined with our black and white Gothic dresses created an atmosphere that was elegant yet tinged with aloof narrative depth. Pursuing this unified ambience, pose designs discarded overly lively postures in favor of dignified and composed frozen moments. Augmented by holding the rabbit plushie and sword, the entire frame attained both two-dimensional delicacy and the realistic architectural solemnity of the physical space.
This photo set marks a personally satisfying recent endeavor. Regarding this character crossover and costume style, I was initially worried about not being able to handle such heavy European-style attire, but our synergy with the photographer turned out very tacit. The real-set studio's light-and-shadow capture along with the texture presentation of costumes, makeup, and props were all phenomenal. I hope to explore more tactile venues like this in the future to capture even more characters across diverse styles on camera.
