This is an unreleased Venti cosplay photo, aiming to present his most natural, zoned-out state. When I first saw this pairing of the green cape and white shirt, I thought it was perfect for capturing a clean aesthetic with a touch of natural airheaded charm.
Let's talk about the makeup and styling first. To restore that translucent look, the foundation was applied very lightly, with the primary focus on the eyes. After trying several pairs of green eyes contacts, I finally chose these bright and clear emerald green contacts, which paired with long eyelashes made my gaze look exceptionally innocent. The wig features a black-to-blue gradient with voluminous texture styled on top, and bright blue highlights on the twin braids so that even in dim lighting, the blue on both sides would brighten up the entire frame.
For props, I chose a red apple, creating a strong visual color-blocking contrast among red, green, and blue. During the shoot, I deliberately held my hand in front of my chest, tilted my head slightly, and widened my eyes into a blank stare, trying to act out that "Who am I, where am I?" spaced-out look. To express the character's lightness and natural ease, the camera angle was slightly high-angle, which visually enlarged the eyes, made the face look smaller and cuter, while the body language was intentionally kept soft and relaxed.
In post-processing, I avoided heavy skin smoothing, preserving original skin texture and realism, merely lifting facial highlights slightly with a soft-focus glow to match the warm-toned background and envelop the photo in a gentle atmosphere. A lot of care also went into handling the green ribbons and shadows in the foreground to ensure rich visual depth. Every time I cosplay such 2D characters, styling the wig takes a ton of time; to prevent the hair from looking stiff, I even used a curling iron on the side hair to create natural curves.
As an iconic character in Genshin Impact, Venti's free-spirited and laid-back aura is actually hard to grasp—trying too hard easily feels forced. So this time I tried a different angle: that dorky, silly expression watching you eat an apple. We used a single-light setup on set, creating a nice contrast between the red apple and fair skin while providing ample catchlights in the eyes. Stripping away lavish, complex backgrounds to focus solely on a portrait close-up is often the best way to convey a character's personality through facial nuance.
The overall feel this time was very relaxed, as it didn't require forcing complicated poses—as long as the gaze was right, the vibe emerged naturally. With every styling for this character, I hope to bring something fresh, and this harmless, spaced-out demeanor was a different way of interpreting him. Quietly spacing out while holding an apple actually feels closer to his carefree everyday state strolling around Mondstadt.
