Preparing for this Kamisato Ayaka cosplay shoot took nearly a month beforehand. From tailoring the costume to trimming the wig, I wanted every single phase to closely reflect the elegant, dignified Shirasagi Himegimi of Inazuma. Today, the two sets of photos captured under the cherry blossoms are finally retouched, so I wanted to document the details and insights from this shoot.
First, regarding hair and makeup: Ayaka's hair has that distinct, crystalline ice-blue hue. To achieve an organic drape, I began thinning and setting the wig two to three days in advance. The topknot bun was actually elevated with a small claw clip to boost the crown's height, then adorned with blue ribbon bands and floral hairpieces, finished with earrings featuring pearls and blue blossoms to establish clear visual depth. For cosmetics, since Ayaka embodies a cool demeanor infused with youthful tenderness, I used blue contacts to enhance that Anime cosplay essence. The eye makeup emphasized diffused blending at the outer corners and crisply separated lashes, paired with concentrated blush across the center of the face to foster a delicate, vulnerable charm, finished with a dewy, sheer red lip tint.
Wardrobe-wise, the gown features an off-the-shoulder cut showcasing collarbone and shoulder lines, with the neckline and sleeves layered with sheer tulle and ruffled trims. Pale blue ribbons are tied along the arms, accompanied by matching bows at the wrists, while a delicate chain accent across the chest adds the perfect flourish. The overall blue-and-white palette feels exceptionally refreshing. To complete the look, I specially prepared a sheer tulle choker embellished with white floral accents, harmonizing seamlessly with her regal aesthetic.
The location on shooting day was a cherry grove in full bloom. To evoke an ethereal, dreamy Sakura Photograph aesthetic, we put extensive thought into lighting. We relied primarily on natural daylight, supplementing with a softbox from the side to illuminate the face and grant the complexion a translucent glow. The background was blurred with a wide aperture, transforming the blossoms into soft bokeh orbs so the subject stood out crisply.
Because Ayaka is a poised young mistress with noble grace, I avoided exaggerated poses, focusing instead on crossing both hands softly against my chest, delicately holding flower branches and ribbons, or gently tilting my profile with closed eyes to inhale the blossoms' scent. In Photo 1, I gazed directly into the lens, aiming to convey Ayaka's gentleness and quiet resolve; Photo 2 leaned into a close-up profile where the closed-eye state evoked a tranquil, serene mood.
We ran into minor hitches on set—the wig easily fluttered out of place in outdoor breezes, and the sheer sleeves caught on twigs—yet I'm thoroughly pleased with the final frames. Cherry blossoms resonate so effortlessly with Ayaka, and I hope these captures bring everyone a refreshing breath of springtime.
