[Misaki cosplay] Blue Archive Chinese Qipao Styling

For this shoot featuring Misaki's qipao look from Blue Archive, a lot of thought went into everything from costume details to set construction. This dark blue sleeveless qipao has a very tailored fit, and the subtle jacquard pattern on the fabric combined with the golden snake embroidery on the chest gives it a rich texture. To better showcase this outfit on camera, I specifically studied the garment's cut during the fitting; the blue frog buttons and floral embellishments around the collar serve as the visual focal point, so I made sure to minimize excessive head lowering during shooting to keep my neck and shoulder lines elongated and graceful.

Wig styling was definitely one of the biggest challenges this time. The white crescent moon hair accessory on top and the blue floral accents on the side are the crowning touches. To firmly secure the two high double buns atop my head, I used plenty of hairspray and bobby pins, making sure they wouldn't collapse or reveal pins from any angle during shooting. While styling the wig was time-consuming, the final result was well worth it and brought me closer to the character's temperament.

As for the set decor, we chose classical Chinese wooden furniture, carved folding screens, and sheer curtains adorned with calligraphy, complemented by red and white blossoming branches to enrich the color layering of the entire frame. The dark blue outfit stood out strikingly against the warm-toned backdrop, creating great visual contrast. To match the aura of this character, the makeup accentuated elongated eye lines and red lips, paired with light-colored contacts to add depth to my gaze. Combining black gloves on the hands with Black stockings on the legs not only elevated the completeness of the overall cosplay, but also added an air of mature, cool glamour.

When designing poses, I tried several different seated postures to highlight the features of the outfit, such as crossing my legs on a daybed or curling up on a wooden chair. The texture of the Black stockings has a subtle sheen under the lights, which, paired with crossed leg lines, effectively guided visual focus in the lens and flattered body curves. To capture that languid yet detached mood, I kept my facial expression calm, lifting my chin slightly with eyes either cast downward or looking straight into the lens. Draping the striped outer robe halfway down into the crook of my arms broke the monochrome simplicity of the solid-colored qipao, creating richer layers while accentuating my shoulder and neck lines.

The entire shoot was a continuous process of refining details—from the folds of the cuffs to the angle of the hair accessories, everything had to be checked repeatedly before the lens to ensure the quality of every finished photo. Wearing this outfit under studio lights was actually quite stuffy, but to get great photos, regulating breathing and maintaining steady posture were essential. This photo set represents my understanding and visual presentation of the character; I hope to leave a vibrant mark in the magical 2D world through the lens.
