This shooting plan for the summer Kuroneko has actually been prepared for quite a long time, mainly spending a lot of effort on the management of clothing and wigs. The most classic element of Gokou Ruri's summer styling for this character is that wide-brimmed straw hat and purple long straight hair. To restore that refreshing summer feeling, I specially chose this white slip dress with lace trims and pleat designs. The wig also features neat bangs on the forehead and a gradient purple treatment on the back of the head; under the outdoor sunlight, the purple at the hair tips will be particularly translucent and very beautiful. The texture of the wig is crucial for cosplay; to prevent the hair strands from looking frizzy, before setting off, I specially used a flat iron to carefully organize it once, and sprayed hair care essential oil at the hair tips to ensure that every hair strand can reflect natural luster in front of the lens.
The shooting day was actually quite hot, and we chose a shaded trail for the outdoor scene. To fit the summer vibe, I matched it with white ankle socks and black glossy chunky-heeled Mary Jane shoes, which not only elongated the leg lines but also gave a retro girl feel when walking. Outdoor shooting tests lighting the most; the light spots filtering through the leaves were very beautiful, and the photographer captured me holding the hat brim, squatting, and standing looking at the lens, making the overall look very lively. The straw hat is actually a very good auxiliary prop; whether wearing it or gently holding the hat brim with your hand, it can break the stiffness of the standing posture and make hand movements more natural. During shooting, I would pay attention to tucking in my chin and facing the light as much as possible, so that the gaze captured would be clearer.
After moving to the indoor café, the atmosphere became much quieter and more daily. The light by the window was very soft, and we used lace curtains and tablecloths as foregrounds, increasing the layering of the frame. I held a white rose or rested my chin on my hand looking at the lens; these actions were actually intended to express Kuroneko's slightly lazy yet playful temperament. During shooting breaks, we also drank a green cold drink, which placed on the table also became a great shooting prop. When shooting indoors, I would relax my shoulders slightly to make the whole person look more relaxed. The addition of the white rose gave the frame a little bit of girlishness, forming a good echo with the white dress.
In terms of details, we can also talk about makeup and accessories. For the eye makeup, I specially chose purple-toned contact lenses to echo the color of the wig. The base makeup was kept relatively light and thin, mainly to cope with the muggy outdoor weather and prevent makeup from melting. The blush was applied high up on the apple of the cheeks, bringing a bit of Japanese girl vitality. The white ankle socks and black Mary Jane shoes are a highlight of this styling. There is a circle of lace design around the edge of the socks, forming a very clever up-and-down echo with the lace edge of the skirt hem, and such details can often determine the refinement of the overall styling. Although walking in black chunky-heeled shoes is quite tiring, for the sake of restoration, this is nothing.
Regarding post-processing color grading, the overall style this time leans towards Japanese fresh style, with color saturation not adjusted too high, preserving the original green of the leaves and the natural white balance of the sunlight. Actually, the core of cosplay is still the understanding and interpretation of the character; actions don't need to be rigidly bound to stereotypes, and naturally acting out Kuroneko's usual slightly tsundere yet full-of-girlish-heart small expressions is enough to touch people. Thank you very much to the photographer for their patient guidance during this shoot; we spent quite a lot of time on scene switching and light-and-shadow capture, and the final presented effect also met expectations. From every wrinkle of the clothes to the matching of shoes and socks, I hope everyone can feel the charm of the summer Kuroneko. This set of pictures records an attempt of mine in the summer, and I hope everyone likes it.
