In this blooming spider flower sea of flowers photo shoot at Xianlu Island, Foshan, we materialized the nighttime atmosphere of Gokou Ruri from My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute with the help of the starry sky and glowing buildings. Pairing a small white dress with a straw hat or a transparent umbrella creates an unexpected chemical reaction with the purple-haired Kuroneko in a night scene.
Before the shoot, I was actually quite worried about the lighting at night. Although the flower field is dense, without proper light source guidance, it could easily turn into a "pitch-black blur." After communicating with photographer @晨光Star, we chose a localized highlight approach for this night portrait. For instance, coordinating the transparent umbrella with the white glowing spire building behind me (a landmark of Xianlu Island) gives the frame a surreal sense of contrast. It wasn't just the background that was glowing; small props in my hand like lilies, a handheld lantern, or even just simply holding the straw hat helped evenly illuminate my face. For the outfit, I intentionally avoided overly gorgeous dresses and opted for a basic white slip dress instead. This was because I wanted to maintain Kuroneko's inherent temperament—slightly cool, yet carrying a young girl's unique stubbornness. The purple-blue long straight hair is her iconic soul; drifting slightly in the night breeze, even the hair halo captured by the lens looked incredibly gentle.
During the night shoot, the foreground and background blur brought by a wide aperture was wonderful. Especially by dimming those pink flowers slightly to act as a foreground, and leaning the overall tone toward cool blue and dark purple, it perfectly matches the visual impression of Kuroneko as a "fantasy elf under the night sky." We wrapped up this set around 2:00 AM. Although mosquito bites in the bushes were unavoidable, seeing the fantasy-colored atmosphere in the final photos made it completely worth it. Shooting a night scene for such a specific character heavily tests the moment of capturing the gaze. I hope everyone can feel Kuroneko's unique aura.
