This Gokou Ruri Gothic outfit photoset was finally successfully shot, and the overall effect is even more fitting than expected. To restore Kuroneko's chuunibyou yet slightly tsundere atmosphere, a lot of thought went into the early-stage makeup and styling. The wig chose a high-saturation purple long straight hair paired with iconic blunt bangs; the black cat ears on top of the head are the soul of the entire styling, instantly bringing a sense of character immersion once worn. The eye makeup adopted red contact lenses, with red eyeshadow blended under the eyes, paired with a fair base makeup, striving to present a cold, glamorous yet slightly yandere 2D texture.
In terms of clothing, this time I wore a black-and-white color-blocking Lolita-style long-sleeve dress. The outer black layer features delicate subtle patterned jacquard, paired with an inner white shirt, with extremely intricate lace ruffle designs on the collar and cuffs. Bright blue ribbon bows on both arms break the dullness of black and white, paired with a pearl choker and a purple rose decoration on the chest, maximizing the layered details. The lower body features layers upon layers of black-and-white skirt hems, matched with a pair of grey stockings, maintaining elegance visually while bringing a touch of mystery.
During the shoot, I purposely chose a light grayish-blue solid color studio background. Because the color contrast between the purple hair and the black dress was already strong, a clean background could better highlight the subject and prevent the frame from looking cluttered. In terms of lighting, the main light adopted a cool-toned light source; cool light not only makes the character's skin tone look more translucent, but also makes the subtle patterned details on the black dress clearer. In pose design, I tried three different sitting postures. The posture of supporting the cheek with one hand and slightly crossing the legs can well showcase the wrapping feel of the grey stockings and leg lines, while matching a slightly raised gaze to show Kuroneko's arrogance. The posture of lifting the skirt hem with both hands gives the overall styling more tension, with the center of gravity lowered, giving a casual yet noble feel.
When expressing works leaning towards this Gothic Lolita style, the character's posture and hand movements are crucial. They cannot be too stiff, nor completely relaxed. Hands slightly curved with fingertips lightly touching the chin or neckline can increase the vivacity of the frame. The angle of crossing legs also required multiple adjustments, and the photographer paid special attention to the lens perspective relationship during shooting to avoid distorting the character's edges as much as possible. Overall, today's light, shadow, costumes, and makeup coordinated with great tacit understanding, and the finished product captured that exquisite, cold, and glamorous atmosphere very accurately. I truly enjoy this process of materializing a 2D character, and look forward to trying more characters of different styles in the future.
