Shooting this cat-eared maid look for Gokou Ruri required controlling a wealth of nuances right from the preparation stage. For the wig, I used long, straight dark-violet hair, slightly trimming the blunt bangs to align with the character's canon proportions. When applying makeup, pink contact lenses paired with red-toned eyeshadow were the centerpiece; if the blending boundary isn't tightly controlled with this color scheme, the eyes can easily look swollen, so I focused primarily on contouring along the lower lash line and elongating the outer corners to evoke a melancholic, doll-like maidenly gaze.
Regarding the wardrobe, the dark-brown long-sleeved dress overlaid with a beige ruffled apron creates rich, distinct layering. The crimson bow at the chest and the crisp white shirt collar brighten the overall color palette. To complement this styling, I paired it with black Stockings, ensuring that while seated, the visual contours of the legs appear smooth and elongated. The location was set in a rustic vintage-style interior: the green electric fan in the background, floral-patterned throw pillows, warm incandescent lamps, and lace curtains harmonized flawlessly with the costume's earth tones. We shot in the afternoon, allowing the natural daylight streaming through the right-hand window to cast a soft rim light; adjusting my stance let the light catch the strands of hair and the pleats of the skirt, immediately bringing out tactile depth.
In terms of posing choreography, keeping the character's feline traits in mind, I arranged poses lounging over throw pillows with hands gently folded together. While this posture appears relaxed, maintaining an upright torso actually required steady core engagement throughout. The cat tail prop trailed naturally behind without looking stiff. Expressing nuance through the eyes was vital: gazing into the lens demanded a slightly detached, aloof aura softened by a touch of innocent vulnerability, complemented by manicured nails that added extra polish.
When conferring with the photographer, our main focus was using composition to emphasize the subject's presence. In the resulting selects—whether straight-on or in profile—the subject firmly anchors the center of the frame, with the background props feeling lush without ever stealing the spotlight. The overall color grading leans warm and richly nostalgic. I genuinely relished shooting this set; from the layered couture to the tailored lighting, every detail was tuned to channel Ruri's unmistakable essence. It was far more than simply putting on an outfit; it was about fully immersing myself into that languid yet tsundere mindset. Throughout this process, keeping facial expressions relaxed and free of tension was paramount. Often, the subtlest shift in eyeline can entirely reshape the emotional tenor of a photograph. I truly hope this series conveys the inherent charm of the character.
