This set was actually shot back in the spring, and I procrastinated all the way until autumn to finally post it. Spring is truly the ultimate season for photography: the temperature is ideal, the blossoms and greenery are lush, and the lighting is in a remarkably soft diffuse state, making skin look radiant and translucent without complex lighting rigs. For this shoot, I portrayed Marisa Kirisame from Touhou Project. Because her lore is that of a human magician, I specially prepared a black vest accented with gold stars over an off-white long-sleeved blouse, accompanied by a star-patterned apron—embodying a classic Blonde Western-style dress. The black wide-brimmed witch hat on my head was trimmed with a wide band of cream lace along the brim, adding visual depth. For hair, I selected a long blonde spiral-curled wig with blunt bangs and small purplish-red ribbon clips at the side. To capture the character authentically, the makeup artist poured extensive thought into the eyes: beyond using golden-brown contacts and lower-eyelid shading to enlarge the eyes, star-shaped glitters were placed beneath the eyes, which, paired with subtle peachy-orange lip gloss, achieved an anime-faithful aesthetic.
I remember waking up extraordinarily early that day to arrive at the purple flower field right when the morning light was at its softest. Because spiral curls easily lose their bounce while moving, styling the wig took ages before heading out, reinforced with plenty of strong-hold spray. The outfit was multi-layered: over the off-white high-collared long-sleeved blouse went a dark navy vest. To keep the silhouette crisp and structured, the vest was tailored from a slightly firmer fabric, with delicate ruffled edges at the collar and cuffs lending a vintage flair. The bottoms featured a star-printed long skirt layered with an apron-like overpiece tied at the waist; the black fabric with golden stars carried exquisite texture under the sun. Arriving at the flower field, the morning dew hadn't completely dried, lending an ultra-pure clarity to light refracting through the blossoms. To capture the feeling of being embraced by flowers during this Sea of flowers photo shoot, I crouched among the blooms or sat on a pre-laid mat. Photographer @ACI瓷 continuously adjusted angles, even lying prone on the soil for low-angle shots with incredible dedication. Makeup artist @Dingdangmao stayed by my side throughout, touching up makeup, styling hair, and carefully angling the lace on the wide-brimmed hat to ensure perfection in every frame.
Two shooting locations were selected. The first set took place in low-growing purple flower fields that bloom vigorously in spring, creating a vivid purple sea as our backdrop. Sitting amidst the blossoms with the skirt billowing out created striking color contrast. The second set was staged beneath blooming pink cherry blossom trees, where sunlight filtering through the petals infused the frame with dreaminess. Holding the Mini-Hakkero (Bagua) prop and posing with a striped parasol added dynamic movement, bringing the character vividly to life. The photographer was remarkably adept at framing and capturing light and shadow, seamlessly seizing numerous lively and natural moments for which I am immensely grateful.
In the afternoon we relocated to the cherry blossom grove, where the light took on an entirely different character. The cherry trees were tall, and the dappled light filtering through the petals presented a technical challenge, easily casting unflattering shadows across the face. We tested several angles and utilized the parasol as a prop, letting sunlight catch along the handle to shape three-dimensional facial highlights. In the set featuring the Bagua prop, I tried reaching upward; reviewing the captures afterward, the posture looked delightfully spirited. As a severely procrastinating cosplayer, this photo set sat quietly on my hard drive throughout the entire summer, only slowly getting retouched and sorted as autumn cooled down. Gazing at these images, I genuinely reminisce about the vibrant, energetic spirit of spring. Next spring, I will definitely shoot another set, perhaps exploring different scenic backdrops or lighting moods. The styling experience was fantastic, and I hope to collaborate with the same team again next time. Sorting through these pictures felt like reliving spring memories all over again; though posted late, I am thoroughly satisfied with this Marisa Kirisame cosplay work.
