Putting on this Wizard costume of Marisa Kirisame from Touhou Project, I did this shoot at the Vintage library real-scene set of the photography studio.
The most eye-catching part of this outfit is the giant white ruffled lace hat on my head. The cascading frills and black lace embellishments on the brim give the overall visual an exceptionally gorgeous and retro feel. To go with this hat, I chose a light golden long wavy wig, styled into loose braids on both sides. This both fits the character's classic Blonde twin tails look and gives the overall appearance a softer, more natural feel. For makeup, I paired reddish-amber contact lenses with intensified eyeshadow and eyeliner to express the magician's lively, playful charm.
The upper body is an off-the-shoulder white lace blouse worn under a buttoned black high-waisted underbust corset vest, nicely sculpting the silhouette. A vintage key-shaped long necklace hangs from the neckline, fitting the mysterious identity of a magician in its details. The lower body features the signature starry black ruffled miniskirt, embellished with constellation dots, spliced with abundant white lace and stiff tulle mesh. This layered design allows the skirt to naturally flare with great dynamic energy when taking large poses with the long wooden staff. The brown leather belt and pouch worn across the waist add an adventurer's practicality to this gorgeous attire. On my feet are black chunky Mary Jane strap shoes paired with white crew socks, delivering a youthful touch without stealing focus from the intricate skirt. The crook-shaped long wooden staff in hand served as a key prop for this shoot, providing great visual extension when structuring body poses and stances.
The Vintage library real-scene studio chosen for the shoot matches the character remarkably well. Tall, dark wooden bookshelves are packed with various prop books, while the distressed solid wood desk and carpet feature candlesticks, teacups, and even an exquisite taxidermy owl ornament, filling the entire space with a mysterious, classical aura. To simulate the visual of a magician breaking into a library, we designed diverse poses—from casually sitting on the desk edge with legs parted, to dynamic magic-casting strides holding the wooden staff. The photo chosen as the cover features a side-standing stance: one hand resting on the long wooden staff, the other pointing forward, paired with a slightly playful expression that wonderfully conveys the character's confident and slightly proud nature.
During the actual shoot, there were quite a few modern items in the studio like lighting equipment and standing fans—for instance, electrical plugs and fans are visible on the floor in other wide shots—but this doesn't detract from the overall atmosphere; rather, it highlights a meticulously arranged professional studio shoot. Post-processing avoided excessive background blurring, preserving ample textures and tangible realism of the actual set. Due to the many layers of the costume, chunky shoes, and the heavy hat, moving around and posing in the studio was indeed physically demanding. Fortunately, my cosplay partner and the photographer helped constantly to arrange the skirt hem, smooth the wig, and adjust lights, making the process much smoother. Ultimately, this intricate outfit infused with a rich vintage magical style, combined with the library setting, delivered an immersive set of real-scene photography. I hope this studio log conveys the charm of that super-genius magician in Touhou Project.
