[Marisa Kirisame cosplay] Touhou Project Magician's Convention Photos

This set of convention photos was shot at an expo venue near the Xiamen coastline. Portraying Marisa Kirisame from Touhou Project, I opted for a more ornate, cute variation rather than the classic black-and-white apron dress, switching to this look centered on white ruffles and a black star-patterned skirt.

Let's first talk about the specific components of this outfit. The white off-the-shoulder top features puffy detached sleeves, and the neckline design is exquisite—beyond the lace trim, a sapphire pendant is sewn right in front of the neck, serving as the perfect visual centerpiece. The brown leather corset and vintage-engraved pendant added a touch of narrative weight fitting for a magician to what might otherwise look like a floaty dress.

For headwear, the exaggerated, oversized ruffled hat took up serious volume. The brim was multi-layered with reinforced internal wire framing to maintain the fluffy, 3D structure seen in the photos; however, securing it on the head required careful fastening to prevent it from tilting while navigating the bustling convention venue. For hair color, I picked a classic light golden-blonde wig with a soft texture, carefully braiding twin braids on both sides and curling the bangs and side strands slightly with an iron so the loose strands looked natural and could withstand scrutiny under diverse convention hall lights.

The lower half consists of a puffy black mini skirt dotted with delicate gold stars that give off a subtle shimmer, with white lace trim along the hem to echo the top. Paired with semi-sheer white stockings adorned with black criss-cross bows and black patent leather platform Mary Janes, this White thigh-highs outfit achieved a well-balanced visual weight. The shoes and stockings looked fantastic in motion, which was the main reason why I chose the dynamic standing pose with one leg kicked up as the leading photo.

Of course, maneuvering in bulky Anime cosplay costumes in a crowded expo hall is never easy. Not only did I have to prevent the wide skirt from brushing against passersby, but I also had to protect the integrity of the customized prop broom in my hand. That broom with a hooked wooden handle was specially patched with wig fibers and fabric strips at the tip to emulate a fuzzy magical glow texture, feeling pleasantly substantial in hand.

Regarding the shooting poses, the two main photos represent contrasting moods. One is highly dynamic and lively—lifting one leg with the other hand lightly resting on the hat brim, paired with a fleeting glance over the shoulder to fully exhibit the dramatic tension of the ruffles. The second photo is a relatively serene seated pose, holding the massive hat overhead to frame an almost symmetrical visual composition, with the prop laid across the white circular rug beside me, allowing a clear view of the embroidered collar details and contact lens color. Blending motion and stillness captured the character's demeanor across different moods.

Many thanks to the photographer for precisely capturing these details under complex indoor lighting; the venue's multiple overhead lights beautifully reproduced the gauze textures and wooden prop grain. Personally portraying this veteran Touhou Project character who has accompanied me for so long and faithfully recreating every single accessory—despite the intricate effort—brought a truly rewarding sense of fulfillment when seeing such comfortable, polished results.
