This time I did Flandre Scarlet, with the entire red and white color-schemed dress plus crystal wings recreating the classic setting of Touhou Project. In the early preparation, the pleats and dimensional lace of the skirt hem for this custom dress were handled quite well. The white ruffled headwear paired with a large red bow, along with the light golden curly hair, instantly maximized the character traits. For the makeup, I intentionally used a reddish-pink color scheme paired with red contact lenses, preserving the character's innocence while bringing out a touch of the vampire girl's unique temperament. The black framework on the back with various colored crystal ornaments not only ensures it stays lightweight but also highlights the canonical setting of the character.
We tried several different styles during the shoot. The third shot, standing with hands on hips and pointing forward, is perfect for showcasing Flandre Scarlet's confident and playful personality, so I chose this one as the main image. The next two shots where I block my face with my hat were originally meant for emotional close-ups, but they accidentally captured an adorable state of a "head-holding emotional breakdown." This kind of contrast is exactly where Flandre Scarlet's charm lies. I kept holding the teddy bear prop in my hand the whole time, feeling like the character would look bored if she wasn't grasping onto something.
The lighting on set hit the white dress and crystals beautifully, making the texture highly pronounced. In post-processing, I focused on adjusting the skin tone and environmental atmosphere, hoping to make the frame as clean and translucent as possible. Characters from Touhou Project have immense space for expression. This shoot really made me feel the importance of costume details in shaping a character's temperament, and I hope this recreation with my personal interpretation can deliver my love for the work through this cosplay project.
