For the lighting in this Yozakura shoot, we experimented with high-contrast unilateral lighting paired with cool-toned upward illumination to create a floating sensation. The stark contrast between the white lace dress and pink hair against the dark backdrop delivered texture that fully met expectations. Choosing the second photo as the main feature was mainly because I deliberately angled the fan while shifting my weight onto one leg during the shoot, which nicely showcased the lines and proportions of the skirt hem and legs. The red-and-black folding fan had noticeable weight in hand; to convey the ethereal, drifting presence of a spirit, I slowed my movements as much as possible, utilizing a smoke machine to add atmospheric depth to the frame.
In post-processing, we mainly adjusted the ambient color temperature, pulling down shadow saturation to maintain an overall Cool-toned light and shadow aesthetic, making the cherry blossoms appear even more serene and tranquil. The lace across the chest and cuffs of this dress is intricate, making dressing time-consuming, but the natural highlight glint on the hair in the final captures was well worth it. Finding the right framing position amidst the cherry branches on location was physically demanding; the cold night wind and low temperature naturally helped preserve that crisp, cool-toned demeanor. Since the background was dark, facial fill light couldn't be too intense to avoid looking flat, allowing skin to look more translucent from profile angles. We also attempted a bold low-angle perspective, allowing body movements to flare the dress pleats like a blooming flower—capturing an artistic essence true to this Touhou Project character in this Ghostly vibe photography shoot.
