[Marisa Cosplay] Taking Off with a Broom: Touhou Project Convention Photos Log

"Who says this broom can't fly!" Seeing this copy from the photographer at the convention site instantly pulled me back to the atmosphere of the shooting day.

This time I went as Marisa Kirisame from Touhou Project. When initially choosing this outfit, I thought about blending her high-energy vibe with the Lolita style of a Black and White Witch. To match this massive wide-brimmed ruffled hat, I changed many wig styles, ultimately choosing this fluffy silvery-white long hair paired with straight bangs, making the face shape look much more delicate. The pearl chain accent on the hat is a great addition, swaying slightly when walking.

I am also particularly satisfied with the details of the costume. The skirt hem features layered black-and-white ruffles, combined with a large amount of cross-strapping and massive black-and-white bowknots, giving the entire skirt excellent volume. The oversleeves are independently customized black lace flare sleeves, which can both cover the arms and prevent it from looking too stuffy. My absolute favorite is the lower body coordination: this pair of over-knee fishnet stockings featuring black diamond hollow-outs and cross-strap designs, paired with the crucifix metal pendant on the side of the calf, has its sense of detail maxed out. The platform patent-leather lace-up ankle boots are highly stable to wear and visually elongate the leg proportions, making them a perfect match for the Black and White Witch style.

In terms of props, this magic broom was absolutely the center of attention on site. The black-and-white spiral-striped broom handle is customized, carrying a lot of weight in hand. The connection point between the broom head and the handle was specially made with massive black-and-white bowknots and sheer tulle trims, giving the originally clumsy magic broom a touch of a young girl's cuteness. However, swinging it around indeed demands a bit of strength; after a whole shoot, my arms were quite sore.

The foot traffic at the convention was massive on the shooting day, surrounded entirely by onlookers and other photographers. Thanks to the highly dedicated photographer @R饼锐度不够, who braved the crowds and complex lighting to help us find a relatively clean backlit spot. He is skilled at utilizing the on-site background light combined with high-position lighting to shoot highly distinct black-and-white layers for the clothes. Following his guidance, I executed some poses, such as the gesture in Figure 6 with one leg raised and holding the broom, which happened to perfectly display the details of the entire outfit and the lines of the legs.

Although holding a broom doesn't necessarily mean one can truly fly, the joy this styling brought me is genuine. When being recognized and asked for photos by many fellow fans at the convention, I truly felt all the preparations were well worth it. Though the black-and-white palette is classic, it can also manifest a rich texture under light and shadow. I hope this set of Convention photos allows everyone to feel the vitality and enthusiasm of the witch and magician.
