This black and white magician outfit paired with a giant star lace headpiece served as the true highlight of the entire styling. Many friends' first reaction to the photos was this huge lace umbrella hat, which, just as described in the post, has an incredible face-slimming effect while bringing strong visual tension and layering to the overall ensemble.
In fact, mastering the angles for this lace umbrella hat required high precision during the shoot. I used pure white star lace splicing, combined with multi-layered translucent tulle, accented with pinkish-purple and pink fabric flowers throughout. Because of its large overall size, it had to present an upright umbrella-like structure in front of the lens without appearing top-heavy. When shooting low-angle upward perspectives, holding the umbrella handle with one hand and exerting a bit of strength to prop open the canopy was necessary to capture that lightweight and enveloping visual effect in photos one and two. In photo three, putting the umbrella down to turn it into a giant crown cushion created a completely different feel.
For the clothing, I put together a very fitting ensemble. The main body consists of a white inner shirt and black cinched waist splicing, overlaid with a black lace blouse featuring golden-brown patterns, presenting a classic black-and-white color contrast. The neckline is lined with a row of small white pearls, tied with a black satin bow ribbon in the middle, and accented with three cute pink-and-white flower accessories to soften the sharpness of black and white, adding a touch of sweetness. Lightweight black tulle and lace were heavily used at the cuffs and collar edges, giving the outfit a flowing texture even when standing still.
As for makeup and hairstyle, I chose a light golden wig with blunt bangs braided into low Blonde twin tails, paired with light-colored large-diameter contact lenses. Eye makeup focused on warm orange blush swept across a large area under the eyes, complemented by dewy orange lip glaze. This makeup combination brought out a dreamy, exquisite doll-like texture, echoing the surreal and gorgeous costume.
Instead of aiming for very formal traditional studio photography, camera positions this time chose three angles close to daily selfies. Photos one and two utilized low-angle upward views to highlight the umbrella structure of the headpiece and elongate visual proportions; photo three took an eye-level perspective closer to my daily conversational state, clearly displaying facial makeup details. Wood cabinets and indoor greenery showing in photo three's background added a touch of life to the image, creating a whimsical contrast between this exaggerated, gorgeous dress and the real-life setting.
Overall, this shoot gave me a deeper understanding of balancing exaggerated props and subject focus in cosplay. Though massive props make great photos, they test body control and facial expression management during shooting; slight carelessness can lead to the giant hat stealing the visual focus. Fortunately, the final shots met my expectations—this black and white Lace dress paired with the star lace umbrella beautifully conveyed the character's mysterious yet undeniably cute atmosphere.
