In scorching 40°C heat where you could fry an egg on the pavement, today we shot this series on Chongqing's classic rooftop helipad for this Chongqing cosplay photoshoot. Honestly, shooting on open, unshaded concrete in broad daylight under such extreme heat was an enormous drain both physically and mentally. Heading out in the morning, I was relieved to have brought sunscreen, but once on-site, I realized sunscreen couldn't hold up at all. Sweat poured down so relentlessly that touching up makeup was impossible; the foundation melted heavily, so I could only sustain it by constantly wiping away sweat and lightly patting setting powder. Wearing a Sailor suit layered beneath a tactical vest, carrying a heavy backpack, and holding replica firearms, the heat was extraordinarily agonizing—I felt completely trapped in a steamer. Over-the-knee White stockings trap intense heat around the legs in this weather, and having to pace around and hold poses constantly made sweaty feet inside shoes deeply uncomfortable, but I had to endure it for the final photo quality.
Considerable thought went into this set: using wide-angle lenses and low-angle upward perspectives highlighted the weight of the tactical gear and the subject's commanding aura, especially with the looming perspective distortion of the firearms. The evening light was particularly stunning—golden sunlight beamed in diagonally, working together with the blue sky and white clouds behind to push the visual texture to the absolute maximum during this Rooftop photoshoot. To capture the shot with the hovering drone, we repeatedly adjusted its position while balancing my gaze and expressions; thankfully, the final capture hit the vibe perfectly.
Moving inside the abandoned building to shoot against graffiti walls and iron staircases, direct sunlight was blocked, yet the indoor stuffiness became even more pronounced. Sitting on rusted staircase railings or leaning against pipes, my clothes were soaked through in minutes. Yet through the sweat, I had to maintain facial composure, keep my legs taut, and hold my back straight—in that moment, being a cosplayer truly felt like grueling manual labor. The black tactical gloves were thick and completely unbreathable; before long, my palms were wrinkled with sweat. Gripping the gun required firm tension in my knuckles to keep hand lines sharp and showcase the mechanical details of the firearm clearly. Although the process was grueling, looking at the high-contrast photos blending hardcore military style with campus aesthetics during post-processing made everything feel worthwhile. Combining the youthful innocence of the Sailor suit with the austere coldness of tactical gear, alongside graffiti, scrap steel structures, and the helipad, faithfully brought the Tactical JK style I envisioned to life. To achieve the best visual results, I certainly endured many challenges during the shoot, but I also gained valuable experience regarding lighting selection and camera angles, advancing my cosplay photography skills another step forward. I'm very satisfied with the completion of this photo set, and it leaves an unforgettable shooting memory forged in this 40°C heat.
