This set of Ram cosplay photos was shot at the Taishan Anime Convention, hosted by MBC Manchao, with the photographer behind the lens and post-processing completed by Sui Sui. This series was mainly photographed near the outdoor railings by the water.
Let's discuss the makeup and costume preparation. A long, straight pink wig served as the foundation, paired with a cat-ear headband decorated with white flowers. The eyes were brightened with red colored contacts, with the purple cross mark below the right eye serving as a highly recognizable detail. The full-body maid outfit features distinct black-and-white contrast: a ruffled neckline and black lacing make up the top, accompanied by a multi-layered skirt below. The legs were paired with White stockings and black patent high heels. Combining these styling pieces created a classic black-and-white visual contrast.
The shooting location was selected along a bridge walkway, with flowing water in the background and city skyscrapers in the distance; the understated gray floor tiles framed the subject's colors beautifully. Arriving on location, the lighting was diffuse light from an overcast sky—not as harsh as direct sunlight, but requiring smooth, natural shadow transitions across the face and costume. The photographer adjusted the camera angles according to the lighting to keep the frame clean. In terms of props, there were no redundant accessories, relying primarily on postures and gestures for presentation.
In terms of movements, I mainly referenced the character's subtle blend of poised elegance and gentle pride. When taking full-body shots, following the photographer's guidance, I held and lifted the skirt with both hands; this not only elongated the body line, but also showcased the skirt's voluminous flare and the White stockings. During half-body shots, making a hand-heart gesture actually tested finger angles, requiring several attempts to find the pose that made the finger lines look best. Another pose involved crossing both hands over the chest while gazing straight into the camera with the head slightly tilted up. Because it was rather windy that day and the hair easily got tousled, we had to hit the shutter during lulls in the wind or harness the gusts to capture the natural flow of flying hair.
In post-processing, Sui Sui refined skin tones and cleaned up background color clutter to keep the focus firmly on the subject. Special attention was paid to preserving the texture of the White stockings and cleaning up the edges of the skirt hem, ensuring a harmonious overall tone. These adjustments respected the original lighting conditions without excessive alterations.
Generating Convention photos during an anime convention is a process that truly tests collaboration. It requires capturing ideal moments within limited time; this outfit and styling were exceptionally well-suited for outdoor shoots, with the skirt hem draping gracefully while walking. The communication and shooting efficiency were remarkably high, making the entire experience an enjoyable creative journey while deepening my appreciation for portraying this character from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-.
